This place is sooo nice and comfy for family gathering or casual dining. They're serving Sundanese food, but most of the menu is like Indonesian seafood resto menus in general like fish/crab/prawn with some kind of sauces (padang, black paper, singaporean, sweet n sour sauce, etc).
Honestly i was a bit disappointed with their crew recommendation, i asked about their Singaporean sauce and their crew said that it's definitely not sweet, so i choose that one to make sweet-savory combinations between the menus i'd choose, but then when my order came everything taste sooo sweet. Sweet taste was so dominating within all of their dish i'd ordered. So maybe for savory food lovers you should prepare your taste buds. LOL.
I came on Sunday and it's in waiting list, so when i got the seat they gave us time limit to eat, it's about 1,5 hours. But because they served food sooo fast so i still can enjoy the place for awhile. I wish i can come and spend time here without anylimit.
Anyway, I love that they have lemuri crab menu (it's soft shell crab) because it's rarely found here. Overall this place is so recommended for gathering event or family casual dining, but definitely not recommended to lone dining because most of the menus are in big portion (can be eaten for 2-4 persons).
The price is a bit expensive for local rate, but i think it still...
Read moreDecided to visit Gubug Makan Mang Engking for lunch before departure from Solo. I decided to order Udang Bakar (Grilled Shrimps, but i'm sorry, i'm kinda forget ordering the Super one or the Standard one, Super and Standard determines the size of shrimps and also the pricing, both marinated in sweet soy sauce and honey based seasoning and grilled in charcoal), Gurame Bumbu Cobek (gourami / carp fish, seasoned with mashed shallots and chili) and Capcay Ayam (Chinese stir fry veggies with chicken). All of them is delicious and perfect to be enjoyed with a plate of hot steamed white rice. Note for you guys, you must pay for their Sambal, and for Sambal choices, you can choose between Sambal Terasi Dadak (shrimp paste based mashed sambal), Sambal Cobek (chili and shallots based mashed sambal), Sambal Tomat (tomato based sambal) or Sambal Kecap (soy sauce based sambal). I decided to tried their Sambal Terasi Dadak and I pretty like it, although an extra pinch of salt will adding extra points from me 😬. I also ordered their Es Cincau (Iced Grass Jelly and Coconut Milk with Brown Sugar), this one is pretty decent beverages. Overall, for Gubug Makan Mang Engking Solo, i'm gonna rate them 4 out of 5. Read moreIt was a long day today. I departed from Semarang, stopped in Surakarta, and conducted an on-site inspection near Pacitan before returning to Surakarta. Upon arriving back in Solo Surakarta, I had a slightly late dinner with a friend at Mang Engking Solo. Since we had a larger group, we ordered a set menu and took in the surroundings. There was a beautifully maintained pond and garden, with dining tables arranged harmoniously within the setting, immediately giving the impression of a refined, high-end restaurant. The food was served at a pace that was neither too fast nor too slow, and the well-trained, friendly staff with smiling faces arranged the food neatly. The food was delicious, and the price was well worth it given the ambiance and quality. It would also be an ideal spot for family gatherings and especially suitable as a dining venue following important...
