Flores Island is well known for its coffee. But nowadays not only there, Lembata Island as its neighborhood island is starting to introduce their coffee too. Talking about the history of coffee in Indonesia, Lembata Coffee is called to be one of the oldest coffee especially in the eastern region of Indonesia. Back in the era of colonization in Indonesia, coffee brought by Portuguese or Holland to be planted in many of fertile areas across Indonesia, including the Lesser Sunda Islands. One of the first entrance to Lesser Sunda Islands was through Lomblen Island which name changed to Lembata Island recently after Indonesia independence. While Flores have been legendary in terms of arabican coffee, Lembata is trying to fight for its robustan coffee. This because Lembata Island's mountainous part is not as high as Flores Island, so the land is more suitable for robusta than arabica. Most of Lembata coffee comes from low-land mountainous area around Atadei District at the center of the Lembata volcano triangle. But currently there are several districts in Lembata which also have a low-land mountainous area started to cultivate their own coffee. Lembata Coffee usually still grown freely along with other plantation. Therefore, the coffee beans taste is very unique because it carries the taste of the crop's fruit surrounding it. A robust and fresh bitter taste which originated from the coffee beans combined with random earthy and sweet-ness taste of the other carriers, makes it a perfect pair to enjoy the charming and beautiful of Lembata Island. Thank you very much Kaka Ari for being the one who introduce Lembata Coffee to me. Keep up the spirit in giving the best for Omah Bu'e to bring more and more prosperity to Lembata Coffee farmers and pleasure to Lembata Coffee lovers.
