This is one of our favorite places in Bali.
The restaurant "lives" in a restored house near the ocean. I want to consider every detail, everything is done with great love. It is comfortable both in the hall overlooking the rice fields and on the spacious green terrace.
The menu is like a gastro-encyclopedia! Every time we try something new, we are pleasantly surprised by the artistic presentation of dishes and serving. Average check: 150000-200000 IDR per person (dinner).
I would recommend trying Rendang, Nasi Sela Tenderloin, Galantin, Lamb Shank kare (Nasi Kuning rice cooked amazingly), Perkedel. The unique texture of the Ronde Nyonya dessert is slippery and velvety. First time I'm trying something like this.
For any of our dinners, we also usually order Jamu with lemongrass - a very delicately made thing.
Be sure to check out the fabric/accessory store. Here they sell interesting dresses and shirts, which are nice to buy both for yourself and as a gift.
Every Saturday there is a live music concert - the music manager really loves his job and is looking for musicians with his own...
Read moreWe have always been a big fan of the Batik products of Phitecanthropus so when we heard of that the owner has opened up a restaurant, we just had to go and try it out. Tucked in the beautiful village of ketewel, Masa Masa has a serene, understated yet beautifully designed venue, spacious open-air as well as indoor peranakan style dining rooms. The vegetation around is also nicely selected with tints of elegant lighting making it a cosy venue especially in the evening. The food is traditional indonesian food fused with peranakan cuisine which won’t disappoint. The coffee and traditional desserts are spot on! A visit to their two adjacent boutiques, Pusaka (beautiful one of a kind heritage antiquities) and Phitecanthropus (modern and high quality batik prints) will add charm to your anyone’s visit. Can’t wait to be back and to try other items on the menu. A visit to Masa Masa is a visit through pernakan heritage in the midst of traditional...
Read moreI came here expecting good food, but what really surprised me was how much heart went into the place itself. Yes, the dishes are delicious, with rich Peranakan flavors, thoughtful presentation, and plenty of variety. What makes Masa Masa special is the atmosphere.
The building and décor feel like stepping into a living museum, filled with authentic Indonesian cultural pieces, beautiful furniture, traditional carvings, and artifacts that give the whole space a sense of history. It is not staged or touristy; it feels genuine, like you are being invited into someone’s home.
The staff are warm and attentive without being overbearing, and the setting, with rice fields outside and vintage interiors inside, makes it just as nice for a relaxed coffee as it is for a full meal.
If you are around Sanur and want more than just another restaurant, this is worth a visit. It is a place where food, culture, and atmosphere all...
