We really love Bipang Ambawang in Jakarta, so we decided to drive all the way to Ambawang to try the original restaurant while visiting our hometown. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a big disappointment.
The pork satay had a slight but noticeable smell, which ruined our appetite. To make matters worse, everything else we ordered wasn’t good either. The pakis also smelled porky but not in a pleasant way. We were the only table there during our visit, and now we understand why.
Adding to the unpleasant experience was the background music—teen angsty romance songs that didn’t fit the setting. In Jakarta, they played authentic instrumental music and even invited local tribal musician to perform, which we missed here. The only redeeming factor was the rainforest vibe of the restaurant, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the lackluster food and service wasn't good either. Read moreCurious with the taste because of Jokowi ever mentioned it, so we stopped there to try it while on our way to Pontianak. We took some food and not all of them tasted good. The pork satay was good, kokot bak and samcan tends to be too sweet, but the grilled was ok. However, compared to the price, it is quite expensive, for example, grilled 1/2 kg for almost 1/2 million, 5 sticks of pork satay 40 thousand with a rather small size and a portion of nasi campur around 85 - 120 thousand even though the place is open space without air conditioner. Maybe because of Jokowi effect makes them set the price too much. Probably, that is why this place wasn't crowded even though it was at the weekend right at dinner time. The sawung are all also empty...
Read moreIf you are looking for some place that does very nice pork ,especially pork crackling then this is the place to come to. It is around a 1 hour drive from Pontianak but when you arrive you will not be disappointed. It is best to come with a group as it is a bit too much to eat and enjoy all that pork by yourself. The restaurant is open air but it also does have ceiling fans which can used to make it a bit more cooler if there is no breeze. I would recommend trying the pork ribs as the meat comes off very easily from the bone and the meat is soft. Also try the Pork Sate with the dipping sauces and have the pork meat with crackling . If you have a very group then would recommend having the whole pork brought to your table so can...
