Kirana has the best western and Indonesian food in the area - breakfast, lunch and dinner were always delicious. I particularly liked the Mahi-mahi sambal matah, green curry, meat lover pizza and breakfast taco. It was a little pricier than other restaurants around but worth it for the location and standard of food.
If you are lucky to meet front of house staff member Halfan, you will be greeted with a big smile, smooth and attentive service and excellent coffee and cocktails! Halfan and the day manager Lulu clearly have a passion for hospitality and pleasant guest experience.
There are some notable delays and issues with service with inexperienced staff, and a lack of ingredients - for example many days there were no juices available, certain desserts and dishes for our entire time there etc. So you have to be very patient and flexible with your time and your requests, which can get a bit arduous after just a couple of visits (we were staying at the sister hotel, Kini, whose on-site restaurant was closed during our whole stay). I understand it might be hard to get items to a remote location but perhaps a rotating menu could avoid disappointment.
The resort has a turtle conservation programme and I really recommend going to the baby turtle release and donating to the conservation of the green turtles.
The restaurant and resort bay area are beautiful and there are lots of spots to hang out and a small workout area with a pull up bar and rings. Snorkelling in the bay was really good. I brought my own snorkel set otherwise you can rent from the resort for 90k rupiah /hr.
Renting motorbikes from Kirana was expensive at 250k day but we walked down Sekongkang beach and found good bikes for...
Read moreI never leave bad reviews, but this restaurant needs to get it together!
We came for dinner and ordered a meat lover’s pizza, but it was a joke. The pizza had 8 slices, but only 6 tiny bits of meat—and 4 slices didn’t have any meat at all. Absolutely ridiculous!
I also requested fresh chopped chili on the side of my pasta. It didn’t come, so I asked the staff member who took our order. She said, “Please wait.” Ten minutes later, I asked her again, and she had the nerve to ask me what I meant! Seriously? If she didn’t understand me at first, she should’ve asked instead of wasting my time. I ended up waiting 30 minutes for chili that I never even got in time to eat with my meal. By the time it finally arrived (after I said “don’t bother”), I was already done eating.
To top it off, they gave us the bill while we were still eating. After paying, we noticed they charged me for the chili—the chili that arrived too late to even use.
Oh, and the staff name was Indri. She was completely lost, clueless, and clearly needs serious training. She had no idea what she was doing.
Overall, an...
Read moreThe restaurant seemed understaffed, so I don’t place the blame on the servers, but the overall experience was disappointing. There were several resort staff members nearby without helping, while many tables remained dirty with dishes left uncleared for quite a while.
For the food, the falafel wrap was about 90% lettuce, missing the potato wedges it was supposed to come with, and I couldn’t finish it. The mie goreng was very greasy and lacked flavor. For the price, I expected much better, especially compared to other restaurants in the area. There was large number of flies , and none of the fly fans set out were working.
We didn’t end up finishing our meal and left shortly after sunset. The one positive is that the location and...
