To be honest I think it's just an overrated touristy pub which has signed up with every tour operator to get busses full of people here. In the 50 minutes that I spent at the place I saw 3 buses(including mine with 80 ppl) stop here. I did not eat anything, so I'm not gonna comment anything about that and my rating is purely for the service and atmosphere. At the bar I asked if I could try the Red Ale before ordering, the guy said sure and came back after 4-5 minutes with a glass full saying I should have said I wanted to try it first. I did not want to make a big deal about it so just paid and enjoyed my beer which was just a regular pale ale. While at the bar I did feel the overall behavior of the staff was not as pleasant as "advertised" by our bus driver. To summarize.. Maybe the place has good food(which I did not try) and the regular beers, but due to the reason that they have signed up with a bunch of tour operators which bring 100's of tourist in a short spam it's definitely not the "local village bar" anymore that your bus driver is gonna sell you. Speaking to a couple of other people on the bus, they got exactly...
Read moreWe're an American family that came in after a long day at the Cliffs. We were told by our waitress (who seemed nice) that we had to order drinks at the bar because it was a "traditional Irish pub" and that she wasn't trying to be rude, it was "just an Irish tradition". Well, when another waitress came to take our order, she seemed confused and said not to listen to the other waitress because she probably just assumed we were on a tour bus. This waitress took our drinks and they were brought out to us promptly. We later heard the same 1st waitress (the one that denied us drinks) ask/offer an Irish couple across the way, if they wanted more drinks or "another Guinness" and she brought it out to their table directly. I'm not sure if it was just the tour bus or if Americans don't get the same treatment from locals... but don't lie or just ask? Overall, the Fish and chips were good but anything else that wasn't an Irish dish...
Read moreStopped here at McGann's in Doolin as part of the Grayline Cliffs of Moher day tour. The tour was scheduled to go to Galway, but we unanimously chose to come to Doolin instead to have supper and take pictures along the wild Atlantic way since the weather was beautiful when we went. Highly recommend McGann's. The seafood Chowder came in a small campfire cup, get this if you aren't too hungry; even though it comes with 3 pieces of soda bread, it isn't enough for a total supper. Didn't have the cod but it looked delicious. The beef stew was a larger portion and definitely a house favorite!
McGann's also has free WiFi, and Orchard Thieves. If you haven't had Orchard Thieves you aren't traveling correctly!
The only reason I gave McGann's a 4 and not a 5 is because we came on a bus tour, and the service was incredibly rushed. All of the staff are pleasant, but this is Europe and no one wants to be rushed to...
