My other half and I visited here for the second time last weekend and just like the first time round, the Old Bakehouse didnt disappoint.
The restaurant is really lovely, it's simple yet modern and the there's a nice atmosphere. It wasn't too busy when we arrived and we were seated at a very roomy table.
The waitress who tended to us was friendly and efficient (sorry I didnt catch her name!)
We both ordered the lasagne from the specials board and we weren't waiting too long for it.
The lasagne was a generous portion and it was accompanied by chips and salad. We both thought the food was delicious and even though I left some, it was only because I was full.
We both had dessert (always have room for something sweet!). My fiancee had the Baileys cheesecake which he liked and I had the Bakewell tart which was just ok.
It came with icecream but I felt the cake was a little dry and could have had a bit more jam and maybe serving it with custard would have been better but I still enjoyed it.
We'll definitely be back at The...
Read moreOnly if I could give a zero.Went into restaurant asked if we could have coffee, the server was reluctant to serve just coffee and we were told to go over the road to another establishment, when the staff realised the coffee house was closed she said you better come in. There was 4 in our party we waited for an order to be taken ,not even a menu was presented to us. A party of 5 arrived after they were seated given menus and served drinks whilst we still waited. Eventually we were given menues but still no service no order taken. We then decided to leave my brother and I left first with his fiancee and my husband following. A comment was passed by another server who said" Not to your liking". When the remaining members of our party spoke and the Irish accents were heard attitudes changed and they apologised and wanted us to return. Our party members replied plenty more places to eat. I have never in the 20 yrs of travelling to Ireland had such disgraceful service. There was no...
Read moreI’m guessing by the rating here that we caught them on an off night but extremely disappointed with what we got for ~€50pp, I certainly expected a lot better.
Some key points for me:
Veg very clearly nuked, soggy, zero bite. You can’t be doing this when you’re charging €20-30 a main. This should be very easy to get right.
Lack of stock of items, no sparkling water (!), no Guinness, no Tiramisu… I can understand being sold out of items but you really should have sparkling water available. That isn’t hard to source.
I had the cod main and it was a really poorly cooked piece of fish. Chewy when it should have been flaky. What appeared to be melted butter as the sauce.
The staff were, to their credit, extremely hospitable and the service was attentive.
I’ve had Michelin starred meals for less than this per head in Spain, while I acknowledge Ireland is an expensive place to do business you really need to nail the food at this price point. The Old Bakehouse,...
