Lighthouse Tavern — Restaurant in County Donegal

Visited near the end of October (23rd). Seems like they have a seasonal operation. Google and Facebook say that they’re not open on Tuesday and Thursday but didn’t see a note about that anywhere on the premises. So not sure what’s going on. We skipped visiting on both of those days because of a jet. Only info at the door is that they open at 6 pm. Also didn’t have a chance to grab a bite because the kitchen wasn’t open. Sad, we were looking forward to that based on all the feedback on the web. Other than these the atmosphere was quite good, the lady at the bar very attentive and friendly. What a disappointment. If you are not a local, don't even bother, as the manager / owner only seems interested in attending to the locals. We arrived at the same time as a local couple who received a lot of attention, but we did not even receive a menu or anything to drink. Were told that they could not cater for our group as the kitchen was too small. But why have so many tables then?After 20 minutes of no orders taken for drinks either, we had no choice but to support another establishment that were happy to have...

What a delight to find this little gem of a place, close to Fanad Lighthouse, although little may not be the correct word as you will find ample seating inside. Homemade soup and bread was how it should be made, the delicious burger was was enough to fill a working man, the batter on the fish was light, dry and crispy and the homemade apple crumble an custard was just the right balance to finish the meal.
