5 star pub got lucky finding this one happened to be right near my air bnb. Had a quick lunch the first day before heading to the city and was so good returned for dinner the following evening, and was not disappointed. Great pub and proper Irish pub, fantastic atmosphere and the food is just amazing lovely lady called Sinead looked after us brilliant service. Would highly recommend going there enough, but do book if you want dinner to avoid disappointment you won't regret it filled up fast while I was there and I understand why!!. Will definitely return here again on my next trip to Galway.

Whilst staying in Galway we decided to eat at McHugh’s Restaurant. We visited on a Tuesday night and it wasn’t very busy, just a few locals there having a drink. We were shown to our table and were given a few minutes to decide what we wanted. I got the duck spring rolls to start and the chicken burger for main and my partner got the goats cheese salad to start and the steak sandwich for main. The starters were great but the mains were just ok, I’m not convinced the food was the best quality. It was ok and the staff were friendly but I don’t think we would come back.

I have been to McHughs about 10 times now since the new management took over, and I have to say I'm very happy with the pub./restaurant. Very welcoming staff, lovely turf fire burning that is my favourite place to sit. Efficient service and good food. The portions are generous especially the desserts. Very rarely can finish a dessert and usually share it with someone.

Popped in for some food just after 6pm on a Saturday and entered a dark corridor with stairs and no signs, I asked the next customer behind me where to go and was told further at the end of the corridor, door on the right.

I walked in and waited while the young lad had his head buried into some business behind his kiosk, no recognition of my presence, finally I was asked is it for two as another lady was in the queue behind me, but when I mentioned it was just for one the lad went off to look for something.

The section of the pub I was standing in had about 6 empty small tables with no reservation cards, and when the lad returned he said “all booked up” so no food today.

Not the welcome for a solo diner I was expecting, so I went off to Galway to the next open restaurant, got served no problem, great food.

Visit No.2 - Maxi / Monster Breakfast, ooh dawgy

Got into McHugh’s no problem, lead to a small table no fuss, looked at serious looking menu with build your own breakfast section at the back, ooh yeah.

Opted for the Maxi Breakfast €11.30 with extras ..

3 Loughnane’s sausages

2 O’Malley’s rashers

2 Tournafulla B+W puddings

2 Poached free range eggs - hoping

1 Mushrooms

1 Baked Beans + plus 2 more ramakin top ups

1 Extra Sautéed onions

1 Extra grilled tomato

2 Hash browns

Extra toast and brown bread

Lots extra serviettes or my face will be covered

Cappuccino

Extra 3 glass of fresh full milk

Ordered it and poached eggs instead of fried no problem, got all the extras and tucked in. Done to a tee.

Ooh Dawgy indeed. Stuffed. Could not handle the final bits, lashings of sautéed onions, so left some. Ate the rest, will be good till tomorrow now, for sure, no tea certain. Phwew. 5 Star

Well this morning’s trip to doctor to look at rash for 10 minutes €45 often €60 to see him.

McHugh’s best breakfast in Galway, 1 hour of gastronomic delight, about €17 all in.

Will leave it for a week or two before tackling a monster like that again, probably best health tip by the doc’s anyway, but still it is all Keto top level food, finest for the health, my plate would feed two or three though...

We visited mchughs for Sunday lunch recently after been advised it was the place to go for food. Firstly I booked on their website a few days previous but to my surprise I never received a confirmed email or anything with the reservation. The morning of the booking I cud not remember the time we had booked for so tried to ring the restaurant but no answer for aporox an hour of trying. When arrived at mchughs the waitress had given us a booth so thst was perfect as we had 3 young kids. We ordered the kids meals & asked if they cud b brought out as soon as cooked. After about 20 mins of waiting for them they finally came out, nothing special ordered just gougons & chips for them. It was a further 10 mins when we got ours. My wife had ordered the steak (well done) & no cucumber in the salad. Very straight forward order usually. But when arrived it looked like the steak had just been put on the pan for 2 mins, very pink barely cooked and yes also cucumber in the salad. My wife returned it & received it back couple mins later not much better cooked. I had ordered the steak sambo, which I got but was really fatty & extremely chewy. To be honest it was not what we were expecting especially because the restaurant didn't seem to b that busy. I don't know was their staff shortage in the kitchen area, but wasn't very experience we thought it...

Did not have the best experience here. There was a group of 10 of us from Medtronic and had breakfast. We did ring in advance a few days before to notify that we were coming down, but staff member said there was a limited menu and we said we order when get down there.

When we arrive we were told that we only 3 options for breakfast, the mini, full and maxi breakfast, no option for vegetarians. We weren't happy with the response from the staff as there was saying there only one chef on. Eventually we were given a few more options. The service was very slow, didn't get tea or coffee for 20mins and no food for another 20mins.

I understand that places are understaffed after COVID and it is stressful, but the last few time we have been there service has gotten worse and worse. It's just for a restaurant that get a high volume of people from Medtronic it's seems that you're not very interested in maintaining regular business.

As a group we all agree that we won't coming back here again and taking our...
