Myself and some friends have an annual tradition where we do a weekend in Galway with one night dining at The Pullman. This year we decided to do it on the long weekend in February. We have been so many times before and the evening has been fantastic from start to finish. This time however sadly it was less than perfect.
We made it to The Pullman on time for our reservation however our table wasn’t ready, this is fine as we had expected to be offered a drink. We were left in the front cart for 20 minutes waiting while the staff avoided eye contact so not to have to be asked any questions. Previously when we had to wait for our table we had been offered a drink, we usually get cocktails which aren’t cheap so really a missed opportunity to up sell.
We were shown to our table and our order was taken after about 15 minutes which was far too long given we had already been waiting 20 minutes for our table and we still weren’t offered a drink.
The food was nice but not wow. I had to send my steak back as it was not cooked the way I asked. When it came back cooked the way I like it was perfect but still not what I have come to expect.
What really let The Pullman down this time was the staff. Our waitress was lovely however everyone seemed overwhelmed. We were nearly finished our main course by the time our second bottle of wine arrived to the table. We ordered the second bottle as our table was being cleared of the starter so there shouldn’t have been a delay. This was a common theme throughout the night, we asked for a drink, it was ordered and we would have to ask a second time for the drinks in order for them to be delivered.
We were there to enjoy ourselves and the food however this time it was let down slightly by what I can only describe as disorganisation. We were there to spend money and enjoy our night but it was made difficult to do by long wait times. Our bill was less than we usually spend each time we go and we were there until closing time.
We will be going back later this year so hopefully things will have improved as it is a lovely tradition we have, one we don’t...

The food standard is so low it doesn't deserve the one star I had to give to leave this review in order to help other people interested in booking this & ( What they believe to be a fine dining experience ) ...
I would insist if visiting Glenlo Abbey to skip the pullman for dining. Yes take a walk down to have a look at the train, it is something else. Especially lit up at night, but that is all it has to offer.
The service was slow but friendly professional & polite.
The atmosphere was stuffy hot and quiet. We could hear classic music being played from a distance, we sat all together in the last setting down the end of the train. I would not reccomend this area. Your forgotten about and dont get the full experience as the diners you pass while heading down to be seated in that area.
The food was considered the worse my party of 5 ever had. We find it very unusal that all 5 people were not happy with any of the courses they had. We had 3 courses each. If you enjoy fine wine when your fine dining, do not expect that either in the pullman. Stale wine was Drained from the end of a bottle into a glass. Keep in mind your paying at least €12 a glass. Not acceptable.
Tip: If ordering the beef and asked what way do you like it cooked, don't bother answering as the chef does it the way they want it cooked unfortunately, Raw.
We are disappointed in ourselves for wasting our time here, when in fact we could have been enjoying the beautiful hotel and grounds of Glenlo Abbey. ( we are already planning our return here ) It is Our own fault as we did not go through all the reviews carefully about the pullman. We just expected it would be what we were paying for. A 5 star special Treat. I hope leaving this review will help others in going forward and not make the same...
Read moreMy partner and I were very excited for the Pullman experience, unfortunately it fell short. When we arrived, we were made to wait outside while our table was being prepared. It also took a while, considering we arrived on time. The atmosphere inside was very charming and cozy though. We were served bread and butter, the soda bread was tasteless, while the sourdough was delicious. The entrées came in, and we had high hopes, but the crab was very bland. It was processed with mayonnaise and lacked flavour. The lack of flavour was unfortunately a common thread throughout the dinner. Next up, we ordered a cocktail which was very tasty, as well as some sherry. We had fish for the main course -- the fish itself was expertly prepared, but we had to share a tiny portion of mash between the two of us and it was once again, bland. Dessert was a mixed bag. The black forest cake was superb, but the rhubarb panna cotta was very disappointing. At the end of the dinner we were served tea, a piece of chocolate and a piece of jelly, it tasted like curdled jam. In fact, I didn't finish it despite having a sweet tooth. The staff were kind, and they took photos of us when we asked, but the service was slow. We were the last ones on the train, not because we overstayed our welcome, but rather because we were waiting on our courses to arrive. The staff were stripping the tables as we were eating. Overall, despite the atmosphere being nice, the food and service are sadly lacking for the price of...
