The Malt House — Restaurant in County Galway

A table of four people had to share one menu between us. The staff never bothered to give us anymore. Service was very very slow. The table beside us finished their meal, paid and left and the table was cleaned and reset with another set of customers seated. They had their drink orders taken and their food ordered before my table had any waitress approach us for drinks even though we were seated first. We waited at least 30 mins to order. My boyfriend ordered the soup for starters which he never received. We had several waitresses come to the table to say the soup would be out in a few minutes. Meanwhile everyone else in the group had their starters finished. Yet he was left waiting and hungry. Eventually a different waitress came to the table to apologise and said the kitchen was making a new batch of soup. She acknowledged the mistake and gave a free drink to my boyfriend instead. The main course was nice but I had to ask for cutlery after my dinner came out. Very unprofessional. There was no ketchup sachets on my table but there was at the table beside us, why? No staff approached and asked if everything was OK. If they did I'd have asked for ketchup. Upon finishing our meal as the table was being cleared, the waitress took my drink before I had finished it which annoyed me greatly. She never even asked if I was finished my drink. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day 😔. Husband and myself had to wait until the staff eventually went and cleared the tables. When we got our table we had to wait until some lass took our order ,We asked for salmon but was told there was none even though it was still on the menu card. Anyway my husband had something that he liked even though the portion was so sparce. I had a caesar salad not overly pleased with it as it must have been in the fridge for ages or at least that is what I thought I had chips with it served in a metal container they were well done and hot . Came here today for a meal as we often do. Approx 5.30 Despite it being quiet it took a while for either of the 2 girls on duty to notice us. They seemed very inexperienced. However once seated the service was fairly quick and food was excellent. The egg mayo starter was beautiful. Beef was excellent and hot as was the mashed potato and veg was quite good. The only flaw was that the building like many other establishments was quite cold and this was disappointing. I would recommend that a front of house manager be on duty at all times and a uniform would go down quite well as staff here often wear different clothes... and maybe a little background music to create an atmosphere Good luck to the new owners in...
