A Hidden Gem in Connemara!
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Purple Door Cafe in Ma'am Cross, Connemara, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience! Nestled amidst the stunning scenery of Connemara, this charming cafe is the perfect spot to take a break and enjoy some of the best food and hospitality Ireland has to offer.
From the moment I walked through the purple door, I was greeted with warm smiles and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The decor is quaint and perfectly reflects the rustic beauty of the surrounding landscape. It's the kind of place that makes you feel right at home, whether you're a local or just passing through.
The menu is a delightful mix of traditional Irish dishes with a modern twist, and everything is made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. I had the seafood chowder, which was rich, hearty, and bursting with flavor—easily the best I've ever had. My partner opted for the homemade scones and coffee, and they were equally impressed. The scones were light, fluffy, and served with delicious clotted cream and jam.
The service was exceptional—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The staff went above and beyond to make sure our experience was nothing short of perfect. It's clear they take great pride in what they do, and it shows in every aspect of the cafe.
Whether you're looking for a place to relax with a cup of tea and a good book or to enjoy a hearty meal after exploring the beautiful Connemara region, Purple Door Cafe is an absolute must-visit. I can't recommend it highly enough, and I look forward to...

The drinks all came out fine.
The ham and cheese croissant came out toasted but cold.
The ham and cheese toastie was nice and hot with white bread (which we didn't specify for).
But our little girls' toastie came out almost 15-20 mins after our own food, and then to top it off, not only was it piping hot but it came out cut unevenly/one of the pieces of bread was completely broken. And to add to that, it came out on BROWN bread, not the white bread we asked for.
We questioned the waitress, and she said they didn't have anymore white bread! We specifically asked for white bread for our little girl, we wouldn't have cared if it was brown bread on the adult toastie.
We couldn't eat our food infront of her, so by the time hers came out both of our food was stone cold.
The staff were nice enough to offer her something for free, so we got a brownie. But €35 for 3 drinks, 2 toasties and a toasted croissant I would expect a bit better...
