Just back from a birthday night away. Great welcome, beautiful characterful house in beautiful setting in Longford town. Shown to a perfect room No1 top floor, double bedroom with four poster bed and big en suite, complimentary water and fruit in room. TV had infinite channels. Bed extremely comfortable with duck down duvet! Beautiful views from warm room. Maybe could do with a nightlight for ensuite? Multi award winning Restaurant is adjoining. Menu was diverse and what I had was absolutely perfect! Top quality ingredients and unreal value for money. Small bar on site has extensive wine list and Heineken & Murphys on draft. Big warm fire to enjoy a drink beside after dinner. Breakfast was really good this morning, fresh fruit bar and cereal. Breakfast menu has a wide choice and food was locally sourced! Cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this family run guesthouse for anyone, we are a young couple. Some families and more mature guests there too. Lovely gardens and walks on site.

Fantastic place. Staying here feels like being transported to a different time - a gentler, more relaxing time. Beryl is a brilliant host. The rooms are delightful: grand and refined in a traditional way, but with great modern touches (smart TVs, well-appointed bathrooms). Breakfast is a treat, especially the ‘boxty benedict’.

Absolute perfection throughout. The rooms are exquisitely decorated, and the food at breakfast and dinner is the best in the Midlands. Make sure you take the time to explore the gardens. The house and gardens were styled by the Pakenhams, the former Lords of Longford. This really is one of Ireland’s true hidden gems.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Viewmount. I was travelling with my parents and children. A friend had recommended Viewmount to me but I was a bit sceptical after reading some recent reviews. I needn’t have worried. It was the perfect retreat. From the moment we were greeted by our hostess, Amy to our departure 2 days later I was totally relaxed and enjoyed every moment of my stay. I would highly recommend for all ages. The website doesn’t do it justice.||||The rooms were very spacious with a mezzanine level in the suites that could comfortably sleep 2 -3 children and downstairs a fabulous four poster bed, sofa and flat screen TV. The mezzanine would not be suitable for small children. My parents had a ground floor room complete with a wet room. It was at the end of the house so lovely and peaceful. The rooms also had products from the handmade soap company which was a nice bonus.||||The restaurant had a beautiful stonework facade which contributed to the overall ambience. The food was just delicious, staff attentive and friendly and all my kids found something they liked!!! The chef, Siobhán even came out afterwards to check all was to our liking. The empty plates did the talking…||||The tranquil Japanese garden was the icing on the cake with beautifully appointed water features and pathways, walled tunnels, a garden swing seat and lots of little hideaway spaces if you wanted some alone time. ||||During the afternoon we went to the Mall in Longford which is a large activity area with soccer pitches, a swimming pool and walks.||||After dinner we joined some other guests in the library which accommodated a range of board games and proved a very enjoyable evening. There was also another room with a big open fire and sofas if you just wanted to chill out.||||I was so pleasantly surprised to find such a gem on our doorstep and will...

Would not recommend a stay here. We found it to be hugely overpriced for the service we received. We arrived at the house and wished to check it but there was no one around to check us in and give us our key. After some time waiting and searching for help, along with other visitors, someone showed up and gave us our key. At this time we also reserved a spot for dinner. The rooms were fine, we only had one robe when we were obviously a couple, and there were no tea and coffee facilities in the room. The gardens were nice to walk around. We went down to dinner in the restaurant as per our reservation and it transpired that our reservation had not been processed so we had a significant wait before we were seated. We had a terrible experience with service ie food not coming out together, no napkins nor glasses on the table, had to wait 30 mins for coffee. Overall the food was hugely overpriced. Breakfast the next day was very disappointing. For the price of a one night stay, the breakfast was below par, fry up was barely average and the pancakes were disappointing. Again the service was quite poor, no milk for cereals, no glasses for oj. Upon checking out, we again had to search for someone to complete our checking out. There is no consistent front of house person to help with any questions. Overall, hugely overpriced, very very poor service in the house and the restaurant, I was definitely expecting more for...

Our final few days of a true Irish O'dyssey were spent with Marvelous Maggie and her terrific Team at Viewmount House (VH). Longford is the area with my late mother's side of the family originated. VH was the perfect place for a relaxing - and rewarding - journey back on the ancestral trail. ||||From the moment we arrived Maggie made us feel as welcomed as old friends. VH is a vintage manor-type facility with lovely gardens. Our room (1) was spacious and comfortable. Note: If you want rooms 1 or 3 be prepared - 36 steps up. You definitely get a cardio workout. ||||Our meals were served to exact spec and flavor-full. While the main restaurant is closed due to renovation, they have improvised and adapted using the breakfast room and adjoining kitchen to present excellent cuisine in an elegant setting. The atmosphere is one of friendliness and guest-as-priority #1 commitment. ||||An aviary aside: Ask Maggie to show you a most fascinating bird show. You will be chirping about it forever. ||||We have to salute Maggie's team - Mervyn, Molly, "Okee Dokee" and the rest of support staff for going out of their way to give us as fine a piece of Irish hospitality as one will find on the Emerald Isle. ||||Settle in by a wod burning cast iron hearth, enjoy your favorite beverage at happy hour and ease into an outstanding dinner...all adding up to accolade-earning ambience that is Viewmount House. Highest...
