First timers and holiday makers here although we have often holidayed in the Westport region. My Mum, two kids under 6 and I had dinner here on Halloween. We booked a table for 6pm the day before. We ordered one portion of Chicken goujons and chips to share between the two children at €9.20. It was perfect for them. I ordered Seafood pie au gratin which was very tasty with plenty of fish at €22.95. My Mum chose the Organic Salmon €22.50 which she raved about. She didn't offer me a morsel. You know the food is very good when the trait of possession comes to the forefront. For desserts, the kids had 2 scoops of icecream each at €4 each. My Mum picked the seasonal fruit crumble at €8.50 and I opted for the dessert special of pecan pie with homemade rum and raisin ice-cream. I could have eaten a slightly larger slice of the mouthwatering pie but that would have been gluttony. The grown up desserts were simply DIVINE. I got to taste the fruit crumble and it was fab: best I have ever tasted. My Mum was so happy with hers, she didn't want to taste the pecan pie so I got to savour it all to myself! Hats off to the chef(s) for it all! Staff were very personable and attentive. Thanks for the candy for the kids also! Highly recommended if you are passing by or in the vicinity of. Can't see how you would be...
Read moreWhen we arrived the service (maitre d lady, possibly polish?) was excellent. The food was excellent, as was the service during the meal. Unfortunately, at the end of our otherwise perfect experience, it was almost impossible to get any of the staff's attention to pay the bill. They were all completely absorbed with cleaning up and we were completely ignored until we went over to the bar. During the whole 10 minutes we were waiting, one young female member of staff spent at least 10 minutes chatting to what appeared to be friends on the next table, ignoring us, and happily letting her co-workers do all the work. When the maitre d provided her our bill, she snapped around, dumped it rapidly on our table and immediately turned her back on us again. We paid at the bar and speculate that this young lady is a "protected" relative of the owner. If not, this queen of the castle should be fired. What a shame that our otherwise perfect experience (we would otherwise have rated with 5 stars) should be ruined by just a single person (although a bit more attention from any staff member at the end would have been...
Read moreWell, I popped in for a soup and pint after my climb. Usually I hit the pub closer to the reek, but thought I'd give the tavern a shot. I must have got the staff on a really bad day or else maybe I gave impression I was not that important to them as a customer, but not one of the 5 folks that were in the bar today had the courtesy to even say hello, how are you? or ask how my day was, not a big expectation I'd say for bar/restaurant staff. I was given my pint and soup (knorr possibly?) and then they took my payment. I was trying to be nice as I paid and strike up a conversation, but they not even interested. Maybe if I was a big group and there was a chance of a big tip or a nice spend amount, or if I put on an American accent, treatment might be different? In my experience, every customer is important, and it does not take effort to chat. After 15 mins silence at bar, I just put my headphones on, put on some Pink Floyd , went outside and drank my pint. Won't be going back , with or without a group, or a...
