After enduring my Hyderabadi girlfriend's persistent requests, I finally caved and took her to an Indian restaurant in Dublin 15 on the last day of the year. With boyfriends and husbands scrambling like they were in a responsibility Olympics, getting reservations was trickier than finding a unicorn at a zoo.
Upon entering, the manager presented us with the choice of buffet or à la carte. A glance at the lackluster buffet dishes convinced us that they were cold and lacking the starters we craved.
Our order:
Chicken 65 - Standard fried chicken, nothing remotely fancy. Gobi Manchurian - A far cry from the Indian Gobi Manchurian I'm accustomed to; it was mediocre at best. Lamb Rogan Josh with 2 butter naans - Wrestling with the lamb was like navigating a culinary maze – tough, resistant, and definitely not fully cooked. Chicken Dum Biryani - Flavorless rice and rancid-tasting chicken, a culinary disappointment. Cardamom Chai - Surprisingly, the only highlight. Though machine-made, it salvaged the meal.
Upon sharing our honest feedback, the manager explained that buffet and à la carte dishes were crafted by different chefs. Sampling buffet items like chicken biryani and chicken curry revealed a stark contrast, as if we had entered a different restaurant.
It's perplexing why the same dishes on the buffet and à la carte menus differ so drastically. Knowing this in advance would have led us to choose the buffet and order our preferred starters separately.
If you find yourself here on weekends, opt for the buffet when it's fresh – it seems the food is prepared in...

From the moment we stepped in, the warm ambiance and genuinely friendly staff created a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The menu offers a great balance of vegetarian and meat options, but as a vegetarian, I was especially impressed by the variety and thought put into every dish.
From flavour-packed street food to comforting Roti & Subzi, and classic South Indian staples like Dosa and Idly, the menu is carefully curated to showcase the best of Indian cuisine. What truly stood out was how fresh, vibrant, and authentic every dish tasted. You can tell the kitchen prioritises quality ingredients and attention to detail—something that shines through in every bite.
Even my non-vegetarian friends couldn’t stop raving about their meals! And to top it all off, the mango lassi was the perfect sweet and creamy finish to a flawless dine-in experience.
I highly recommend Indian Taste Ongar to anyone who appreciates thoughtful, delicious vegetarian cuisine with genuine Indian flair. It’s a gem...
