This was my first time staying at The Bosun Hotel, and I wouldn’t hesitate to return. The hotel is very well located, offering a lovely view, and it’s beautifully decorated with a clear emphasis on cleanliness. You can tell the team puts a lot of effort and energy into maintaining high standards, with great attention to detail throughout.

One of my initial concerns was the fact that the hotel is right next to a bar and restaurant, both part of the same property. I was unsure whether this might affect the peace and quiet of the accommodation. The entrance to the hotel is completely independent, and there was no noise disturbance at all during my stay. In fact, the bar was quite busy on a Thursday afternoon, which seemed like a good sign of the quality and popularity of the place.

The room itself was immaculate, spotless and well-equipped with everything you might need, including a coffee set. The decor is tasteful and elegant, and every corner of the place reflects care and pride in presentation.

Do note that the hotel has four stories, with a lift reaching only up to the third floor, you’ll need to take stairs to access the top floor. Also, you may need to check in by speaking to a staff member in the bar if no one is at the accommodation entrance when you arrive.

Breakfast was excellent, served at a convenient time with friendly and attentive service. The staff appeared genuinely motivated and happy in their roles, which is refreshing to see in the hospitality industry.

If you’re planning to explore the surrounding area or visit the busier parts of town, it’s a good idea to have your own transport, though there seem to be buses running frequently nearby.

All in all, a great stay. Highly...

We went in here on Saturday afternoon for dinner. There were 4 adults and one 3 year old. The restaurant was about 50 percent full. We were asked did we have a booking which we did not. Normally in any good restaurant they would Try to accommodate customers as best they could. They did not attempt to even accommodate they didn't say maybe wait 20-30 minutes.

It was early in the day and again only 50% capacity. I found them very unfriendly and rude. Not a bit accommodating we left without question although disappointed as we were basically told they were full and refused.

I have been to busier and more popular 5 star restaurants on a weekend night that were packed to capacity and made to feel welcome and given some service whether we had to wait etc. They would always try to accommodate. Unacceptable for me there was absolutely no effort made.

We went next door for pizza. Hughly recommend this place.Which had a quick and friendly efficient service. With a smile from all the staff and lovely atmosphere. So from my experience i wouldnt give them my money or custom my advice go next door their pizzas are absolutely amazing the black pudding and chicken was our favourite. I haven't tasted the food here as I didn't get the opportunity and I never will support this place but either way it couldn't be worth dealing with the coldness, rudness and...

For the record, this happened around 2-3 years ago.

The Bosun was recommended to us by numerous people. They spoke very highly of this place so of course we had to check it out for ourselves. The first time we went it was pretty decent. Cod and fish was okay. Nothing out of this world but tasty. So we went again a short time after. This time it was pretty okay. Fish and chips were bland enough but we just brushed it off. Third time we went but never again we said. Fish and chips weren't great for the prices we are paying. And there is one thing that annoyed me so much about this place the 2nd and 3rd time we went. We ordered our food and they came with the jug of tartar sauce. We used a bit on our fish and chips. About 5 mins later they took the jug away from us. They took it to another table???? This happened on two different occasions on two totally different nights. I'm sorry but is this normal to do in any restaurant? I have never seen this happen before anywhere. Is their tartar sauce so special that they can only supply enough to fit into one jug and pass it around the whole restaurant. This was not good service. Each table should have their own decent portions of sauce and not expected to share with other greedy and grubby customers. Maybe they have changed now but personally will not...

I ordered the Fresh Prawn Cocktail as a starter and the Surf & Turf (steak fillet with prawns) as my main course. Unfortunately, both dishes were quite disappointing. Dessert (Oreo cheesecake) was lovely. The prawn cocktail looked nice on the plate, but the prawns didn’t taste fresh and lacked flavor. The dressing didn’t complement the seafood at all, it was bland and uninspired. The main course didn’t redeem the experience either. The steak was overcooked, chewy, and lacked any seasoning. It was served with the same prawns from the starter, which made the dish feel repetitive rather than indulgent. For the price and reputation of the place, I expected a much higher standard. The restaurant itself is charming, and the staff were polite, but the food simply didn’t deliver. 📍Verdict: Beautiful presentation, but no flavor. Definitely not worth the price

Rooms: Comfortable. 2nd floor room was nice. 3rd floor room had a skylight that created lots of noise when it rained. Nice bathrooms. Service: Excellent service at breakfast. Location: only two choices for supper: the restaurant attached to the Bosun and an outside pizza place. Bosum restaurant had good food, accommodated special diets, and had excellent service. They managed to seat 5 people by putting three small bistro tables together into a triangle. Not the best but it worked.

The location of Bosun is fantastic, offering beautiful river views. We enjoyed the quality of the food, finding it very tasty. Just be aware that the portions are on the smaller side relative to the cost. The staff were efficient and friendly, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere. The only real issue we encountered was the extremely long and somewhat unclear menu, which made the ordering process more complicated than it needed to be.
