Editing my review to address the Pub's response "I do recall your visit and unfortunately at the time you were dining with us it was exceptionally busy."
The place was empty on our visit! We were the only people dining (it was not long after opening I think) and the only others in the bar was two lads sat at the bar! Not a great excuse - because it was empty.
There wasn't an issue with the water boiler, because I was served a coffee (quite obvious instant) and there was no issue getting this out fast.
Firstly, we’ve passed here for a few years while staying at a local airbnb a few times.
First time calling today, and it’s really a mixed bag from me.
The most important thing is that the food, albeit toasties and kids meals - were lovely. Proper ham, spring onions and real cheddar made for a delicious toastie.
Very reasonable prices though, this was welcomed.
The service on the other hand, is somewhat to be desired. The older woman who served us was pretty unpleasant. Not once did we get greeted with a smile, nor a please or thank you.
In fact, my elderly mother asked for a tea when we ordered - and when the food was coming (20 mins later) had to ask again for the tea - the server pointed her finger at her and told her to wait it was coming. Who even does that, particularly to a customer. We wouldn’t click our fingers so why do this?
When we were paying, I said I’ll pay by card. She turned around and said “well, we prefer cash but if you have none card will have to do.” If I wanted to or had cash, I would have paid in cash. In 2023, technology has advanced and you have a card machine on display on the bar.
We won’t be back based on the service. How can you treat people like this and expect...
Read moreI hate to give negative feedback and hardly ever do so, however, this time I have to to warn others. Staff was quite unpleasant, to say the least. Nothing like a typical Irish hospitality and welcoming smile. It felt like nobody cared about our visit even though the establishment was totally empty. Food. We ordered a bowl of soup of the day to share, I chose the cold meat salad and my hubbie the beef burger. The veggie soup was terrible, it tasted like it had more artificial additives than the veggies. It was glutinous and had tiny pieces of some sort of disgusting, dehydrated vegetables. Yuck… really yuck… My salad was from the “light bites” section and definitely had nothing to do with the subject! The beef was nice but extremely dry, the salad was topped with tonnes of mayonnaise. The burger meat was acceptable but reheated in a microwave what caused it to be dry and hard. The cheese on top was the cheapest type of melting fat. The “ketchup” given to us had nothing to do with ketchup - it was just some cheap vinegary sauce from cheap shops. The chips didn’t taste at all, were hard and soaked with old and unpleasant oil. I do not recommend this place at all.
Edit: I am sorry, but it’s been a year since, and I don’t remember faces or names of the staff. There was an older man and an older woman on duty on that day for sure, but I would not...
Read moreWent in today after visiting last year to use the bathroom and being told by one of the women behind the bar that the food was beautiful, inexpensive and more than generous on your plate.
What I was given was less than plentiful or worth the visit. I ordered the soup of the day (vegetable) and brown bread. I was given two thin slices of bread from a pan, not the rich soda bread usually complimenting a soup in any bar/restaurant/cafe.
The soup was very salty, inexpensive yes but it shows in the taste. It was very clearly just heated up and not homemade. My Dad ordered the bacon & cabbage and was given a microwaved meal consisting of three thinly sliced (overly salty) bits of bacon, watery mashed potatoes and about a finger length amount of cabbage.
Would not ever recommend visiting here despite the exterior appearing very woodsy and appealing. Staff were nice but I was obviously lied to last year- we were the only ones seated, seems locals know not to...
