It’s hard to put in to words the treatment we received at The Duck but I guess one word that comes to mind is unacceptable.

On arrival this is a lovely place with much atmosphere. And the evening started so well.

And then, as the mains finished, a server who later claimed to be the manager approached our table all in a tizz to say they were not aware we had brought our own bottle of red wine and they would have to charge corkage. We responded “no problem”.

That wasn’t enough for the manager. She said it was “cheeky” to bring our own wine and walked off. Her tone was so rude. Our table of five was left in shock. Not an air of graciousness was displayed by our host.

To say they didn’t know the wine was ours was simply preposterous. It’s not like we tried to sneak it in!!!!!

We walked through the front door of the restaurant with it opened and in our hand. We handed it to them and advised the server who was called to decant it that we had decanted it earlier at home. And when looking for our booking on their list when asked “are you staying with us” we responded “no”.

To say that we failed to tell them the bottle was ours was simply ridiculous. And couldn’t they see that our wine was not listed on their rather restricted wine list?!

The manager maintained her rude position towards us. She argued back and forth and then finally, when we sought clarity from her on what exactly we did wrong; the proprietor got involved. Sadly, she made no effort to hear our version of events and showed no interest in customer satisfaction. It comes as no surprise that the owner sided with their employee but to make no effort to recognise the view of the customer was shocking.

It was a disgraceful display of arrogance on the part of the restaurant and its team. It would seem the person who greeted us and the manager were not communicating well. These guys need to get their ducks in a row!!!

By the way, the food was nothing to write home about. The lamb was chewy.

In the end they charged us €50 corkage even after we spent well over €300 on two bottles of champagne and a second red.

All in all a terrible experience. It’s cost 900 euro for five. I’ll let you decide if the treatment we received made the meal...

I recently dined at The Duck, expecting a top-tier experience based on its reputation. Unfortunately, our visit was marred by extremely poor service, which overshadowed the food.

Upon arrival, we waited a full 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order. This initial delay set a disappointing tone for the afternoon. We had ordered some nibbles to start, but these never arrived and we had to remind the staff twice before they were finally brought to our table.

The issues continued when we ordered an additional glass of wine. It took three reminders before the wine finally appeared. This level of neglect is simply unacceptable for any restaurant, let alone one of this supposed caliber.

To cap off our disappointing afternoon, our desserts never arrived. After waiting far longer than reasonable, we decided to cancel them altogether. The food itself was decent, but the enjoyment was significantly hampered by the lack of service.

Overall, we were really shocked by the poor service at The Duck. For a restaurant that is supposed to be top-notch, this standard was far from what we expected. I hope they address these issues soon, as the current service level is well...

On Wednesday the 21st February my wife and I called into the Duck Restaurant for a meal at 4.45pm . We were very hungry , and it was a very cold day . What a Joy ! . On entering the restaurant we were met by a very efficient manager who told us his name was Greg . He was very friendly , confident , and competent . Put us to a table here the fire, as he observer we were cold. We had soup to start & I had the seafood chowder, which was the best I ever had . ( and I sampled many ) . Also the soup my wife had was excellent. Hot & accompanied with excellent home baked breads. This was followed by Hake , and Rib Eyed steak for myself .Both were excellent accompanied by vegetables fresh , and hot. Coffee was to follow , and was excellent . The service was nothing but 100% . Professional , warm & friendly. . And the bill for this great meal with a large bottle of Sparking water was 64 euros . Brilliant food , at a very reasonable price . And service that was excellent & professional . Well done Greg . Our return drive to Meath was a pleasure having enjoyed such a excellent meal . Will return again...

Fantastic Night at The Duck in Marlfield House The setting is gorgeous—cozy vibes with a nice mix of rustic and chic. From the get-go, we knew we were in for a treat. The food was absolutely delicious. The fillet steak was perfectly cooked, and the fish dish was fresh and full of flavor. The chips were crispy, and the sides rounded everything off nicely. Cocktails were a highlight too—I had the ‘Slutty Duck,’ and it was as tasty as it was fun to say! The service was friendly and quick—almost too quick, if I’m being picky. It would’ve been nice to have a bit more time to chill between courses, but it didn’t take away from a lovely evening. All in all, a fantastic spot for dinner and drinks. We’ll definitely be back! Duck Terrace Restaurant & Café is a delicious bistro restaurant, part of Marfield Country house hotel open to non residents. Loved the food which included the Duck salad, Prawn and Chorizo Pil Pil for starters and for the mains the fresh fish of the day which was Bream with crab claws and I had the juicy Lava Grilled Wexford 10oz Rib Eye with Portobello mushroom, chips and béarnaise sauce which was super tender and full of flavour. The restaurant is in a long stone building with French doors opening onto a sandstone terrace overlooking the kitchen garden which is beautiful on a sunny day, especially if you sit outside at lunch time! Great to eat here if visiting the area or staying in the hotel.

This place is such a find! Part of the Marlfield Hotel but a stand-alone restaurant. Very well thought out menus, all the food was absolutely gorgeous. A vast menu with lots to choose from. The staff were all lovely and approachable. They also have one area - kind of on its own - so would defo be good for a large group you could put loads of tables together. They also have a real fire down the back of the restaurant with beautiful views of the landscaped gardens so a real treat no matter the weather!
