There is something very wrong with this place but it's hard to pinpoint. It needs a makeover very badly and a new identity as well. There are horses all over the place and you think it's a racing establishment but then you walk in and there is GAA memorabilia everywhere! It's hard to figure out. On top of that it's too big so large areas seem to never be in use and there are tables with numbers on them everywhere including next to the toilet. There is also a Cocktail bar with plastic fruit completely covered up, it's a mess really. I was really hungry when I arrived but didn't eat in the end because I refuse to pay €16.50 for roast beef, €13.50 for a rubbish special or €10.50 for a sandwich! The best thing they could do with this place is demolish is, start from scratch and build a small hotel on the site with a designated bar (with bar food), restaurant, function room and make some money from accommodation which the area could use. They already have the massive carpark. What is there now is a chaos of disorganization with a very old fashioned vibe. (not in a good way) Has enormous potential but needs sweeping changes and food, like in a bar that is available for less than a tenner! Ie,...
Read moreI ordinarily wouldn’t choose to go here, but my mother picked it. The waitress was a lovely lady, took a bit of time at times to return to the table.
The food, the food was not great. I didn’t have the heart to tell the waitress as she was a little older and very nice. I ordered the chicken vol au vent, a main course. It came out as a dish of the vol au vent filling with one (not two as I’d expect for a main) stale vol au vent shell on top, no filling in it. The whole dish was warm, not hot. The flavor was only okay. There was no side salad as was mentioned on the menu. €17.90 seemed very steep for the quality of what I received.
When paying, the manager didn’t even ask how everything was, which I felt took away my opportunity to voice my issues. She then proceeded to pressure us to pay using cash. I’ve never encountered this when a business has a working card machine. Apparently their ‘floats were low’. I found this off putting and quite unprofessional.
I personally could not recommend this establishment. I’ve had similarly poor experiences with the food in the past, and it looks like nothing has changed. Only gave 2 stars as the waitress was a...
Read moreMy fiancé and I have eaten here on 3 different occasions. The waitresses seemed fed up with working there. No smile and matter of fact. Each time has gotten progressively worse. On this occasion we both ordered the steak sandwich. When the waitress placed the food on the table we were a bit shocked at the presentation. We both had cutting boards that were nearly 20” long and 12” wide. Our glasses of water barely had room for the 2 person table. On the cutting board was a 10” split garlic roll which consisted of a whole sirloin steak sitting on top of half cooked onions with mushrooms. Looking at the sandwich there was no good way to take a bite without pulling the whole steak out stuck in your teeth. I had to cut the steak into slices and then put back on the roll. The food tasted less than great. Chips were shocking as they tasted like old fry oil. Small salad was mixed greens with 3/4 parts red onion slivers.
My fiancé and I both agreed as we were leaving that’s the last time we are...
