Repeat customers of Bective Stud Tearooms, think the setting is beautiful and coffee always lovely. Even went for dinner for their special Valentine's Day event last year and had a great experience.
As big fans of the place we would have always had positive things to say until recently. Went on Saturday for coffee, got a seat no problem with no issues sitting outdoors. Today thought we might treat ourselves to lunch and was a very different experience. It was busy but not overwhelmingly so. Half-full outdoors with one or two seated inside. We hovered by the door as usual and we're abruptly told by an obviously flustered staff member to go back outside and wait by the sign (we have been several times and this has never happened before). We did as instructed without argument and were left waiting in full sun with very young baby while that staff member disappeared and another ignored us as she stood chatting about how long she had worked there etc to a couple sat near where we stood.
We went to wait inside in the shade. When we did get called by aforementioned staff member, we were shown to a tight two seater table by the horseboxes in full sun. We pointed out lack of shade and were told there's 'plenty' (As she pointed to the shadow of a mid-sized shrub...). We asked about possibility of the seats with umbrella but were told "larger tables are for larger groups only". Which is fair enough, only when looking around there was a party of two women already seated at a larger table, three free tables and no queue behind us. We asked for the horsebox just vacated and finally got seated.
The food sadly was only ok. Presentation lovely, had a very nice breakfast of full Irish and pancakes the previous week (with those lovely coffees!) but lunch was over priced and only ok. For example mushroom and chicken pie appeared to have been made with chunks of packet chicken (both my husband and I thought this separately and only confessed our thoughts in car on way home!)
All in all not a great experience. Would happily go again for take away coffees or even breakfast but most definitely disappointed in the...

We ordered tap water with our food. A bottle of water and glasses arrived..we noticed a bar code on the bottle and called the waitress to ask if it was to be charged for..the waitress informed us that it would be 5euro so we returned the bottle of water and had our foods. We at this point suggested that customers be made aware in future when ordering tap water that it actually will incur a charge ....(which by the way, is most unusual in Ireland to not serve a glass of tap water.) Our bill arrived but the water was still included so we called a waitress again to explain that we hadn't had the water but what really annoyed us was that the waitress questioned us as to what the unused glasses were for if we hadn't had the water...it was as if she was questioning our pointing out of that it was still on the bill even though we had returned it..as if she didn't believe us! Perhaps management would like to respond as to why a simple glass of tap water cannot be served especially when we spent over 50 euro for the three of us for literally coffee and sandwiches. One last thing..clean up started before we left our table and one of us almost tripped over an unattended hoover with its cord left sprawling ...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Bective Tea Rooms, and I canât say enough wonderful things about the experience! From the moment I walked in, the staff were exceptionally warm and welcoming, going above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. It's rare to find such genuinely friendly service these days.
The food was simply outstanding. Every dish was a delightful blend of fresh, high-quality ingredients prepared to perfection. The sandwiches were deliciously crisp, the scones were warm and buttery, and the cakes were an absolute treat â each one as beautiful as it was tasty. You can truly tell that a lot of care and love goes into every bite. My favourite was the pork and black pudding sausage roll with a tasty relish on the side
As for the setting, it's nothing short of spectacular. The tea rooms are beautifully decorated, creating a cozy yet elegant atmosphere thatâs perfect for unwinding. Whether youâre sitting by the window enjoying the garden views or nestled in a quiet pod, the ambiance is just magical. It's the kind of place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to savor each moment.
If youâre looking for a perfect afternoon escape, Bective Tea Rooms owned by Noel and Valerie is a hidden gem that I highly recommend. I canât wait to return!
