Portlaoise Plaza — Restaurant in The Municipal District of Portlaoise

It may be handy to pop into places like this to buy a quick bite but I have sworn never to stop in one of them for food again. Parking was fine but that's where the positives end. I know I'm extra sensitive about people sniffling and coughing since the advent of COVID-19 but this petrie dish of coughs and sniffles was filled the morning I was unlucky enough to pass through there with what sounded like an orchestra of respiratory infections tuning up before a grand performance. I was only a few seconds into giving my order to the young lad at the counter in Papa Johns when I noticed the rivulet of clear mucus flowing from his nose to his mouth. This was starting to feel like the early chapters of Stephen King's The Stand but, as I guessed the others with me would have been upset if I suggested we just upped and left at this point, I decided to just not look at the young lads stream of nasal discharge and push on through my order. It didn't take too long for my pizza to arrive but enough time passed for me to note foot-high piles of trays by the bins, mostly with lots of uneaten food in them. The tables and floors, while clearly considered clean by the staff, were sticky, as were the floors. Out of the three of us who ate there that day, the very best review of the food (from three different places) was "Well, it wasn't terrible". This though, was from the one responsible for choosing Portlaoise Plaza as the place for us to stop. In summary, keep driving and give your money to a small business in a town, where people who might even give half a hoot might serve you real edible food in a clean place, where the money will then go into the local economy. I wish I could respond to the response. First of all that is rude. The sign is misleading as it is already in the drive trough area stating Supermacs OPEN from 8am and in BRACKETS said Bewley's only 8am-11am. No mention of that it is not served through the drive through and I need to walk in to be served. About a year ago I actually got served a breakfast roll without a problem, it took the staff 10 minutes but they got it. I make signs for a living, fair enough english is my second language, but belive me I can read and comprehend correctly! The service here was absolutely appalling. I ordered a burger and curry chips. I can't even say that it took 30 minutes, because after 30 minutes it still wasn't even being prepared and I had to cancel my order. My daughter ordered an ice cream. She was one of two people in the line and it took over 15 minutes. I don't say this out of spite, but the employees were extremely slow. I stood withing viewing distance of the counter and the employees were chatting, handing out incorrect orders several times even to the same people, and not paying any sort of attention or consideration to the customers.
