I am clocking up frequent visits to The Wilds, this place truly excels in one area: their coffee. From the first sip, it is clear that the baristas are passionate about their craft, serving up rich, flavorful brews. The menu also catches my attention with its interesting and diverse offerings, showcasing creativity that sets it apart from the typical cafe fare. However, the food experience can be a bit hit or miss, with some dishes standing out while others fall flat.
The cafe itself is beautifully designed and tastefully decorated, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that encourages a popular choice for Yummy mummy meet ups! However on most visits I notice a distinct lack of leadership on the floor. There's a noticeable absence of a host or manager to greet and seat customers, which can lead to a bit of confusion. While the staff are lovely and clearly hardworking, they can seem overwhelmed, which makes it feel like you need to actively seek someone out to get a table. This could definitely be improved by having a dedicated person to soley welcome guests and manage the flow.
On a previous visit, a Sunday morning, the experience was further marred by a staff mix-up regarding the keys to open the premises. This incident left customers waiting outside and made it evident that the cafe wasn't quite prepared for breakfast diners. The atmosphere felt a bit off, with no music playing, the lighting not set, and the usual array of counter top baked goods not yet displayed which detracted from the overall experience.
In summary, The Wilds has so much potential with its exceptional coffee and appealing decor, but it needs to address its service and operational hiccups. A stronger front-of-house presence could transform the experience from merely good to truly great. If they can iron out these issues, I can see this place becoming a...
Read moreWe have been locals since it opened and yesterday was the first time I walked away feel very disappointed
The blond lady behind the counter was very rude, possibly because she was overwhelmed as it was busy but that is not excuse. I asked for a table for 4, which she said she didn’t have any and walked away. I then asked if I could wait and she said she didn’t know how long we could be waiting and tried to cut the interaction there. I finally asked if we could sit down outside and her words “if yous want to” another of the servers came quickly giving me menus and asking just to order inside
When ordering there was a duplicate item for our table for two of the chicken toasty, one with GF bread which was ordered at the end. The same rude person took my order so we got the two toasty with GF bread instead of one.
My husband ended up eating because he was hungry but he said it was not nice, which makes sense, he doesn’t eat GF.
The drink order was also incorrect and we had to ask for cutlery.
By the end when we were paying she was very chipper asking for a tip.
Overall I think it was very dissatisfying day, we also took friends for the first time who picked up on her rudeness. I do not ask for much when going for a lunch, just for the person greeting you not walk away mid interaction because they could...
Read moreWent there for a visit with family and a friend. Sandwiches were magnificent, the rosemary and garlic baby potatoes as well.
Irish breakfast was not very impressive at all: overcooked bacon, undercooked sausages, homemade beans in tomato sauce where the beans were a bit undercooked and the tomato sauce not really a sauce and lacked a bit sweetness and the sour dough bread a bit too much toasted.
The cooked cherry tomatoes were super and the sandwich sour dough bread very nice. The leek and potato soup was very nice but didn't taste of neither leek nor potatoes - quite peculiar. Staff was friendly enough but seemed understaffed.
Coffee was nice.
Would happily go there again for gorgeous sandwiches but would not go there for an Irish breakfast - plenty other places that can do that so much better.
It would be nice to be able to taste the potato and leek in the potato and leek soup as well, sometimes...
