Update August 7th Passed here on multiple occasions. Popped in for breakfast this morning and was delighted that pets are welcome.

Food is superb. Staff are really nice. Definitely recommend and will certainly be back.

Aug 7th Just paid a visit to this restaurant after having visited multiple times since my initial review.

I visited today with my wife for lunch. I ordered the pan seared chicken and my wife ordered the chicken burger which was on daily special for €15.90 plus and extra €6 for two cups of tea.

My wife ordered the chicken burger plain, with no salad, no avocado, no sauce etc but asked for bacon.

The waitress took our order and left. A short while later another waitress approached our table and said that we had to pay extra for bacon. I advised that the burger was ordered plain and charged at full price so why do you need to charge extra. I also advised that we had no issue paying extra for bacon had it been called out when placing the order but that it had not been.

I understand the waitress is just doing her job but we just got up and left. We won't back.

You have lost some valuable customers due to a slice of bacon.

It's sad but one must stick to their principles and we will choose to spend our €50 or €60 elsewhere...

Me and my grandmother went here at 11:10 and we got the menu and was seated outside . My original order was a strawberry banana and orange smoothie which was on the menu and my grandmothers was tea and a scone with some jam . I wasn’t able to order the smoothie because a few things were broken which was understanding and completely fine but my grandmother ordered her scone and when they came they forgot her tea and then came with the tea and forgot her milk. the scone was very hard they weren’t fresh they were there for a few days and the jam was very watery . I asked for a menu to order a panini and the women couldn’t understand what a panini was which was kind of odd considering being a coffee shop . I named a few things and she said I wasn’t able to order them so I asked for a simple sandwich and she said I would have to wait until 12 o clock for a sandwich . Overall very poor service and the fact I have to go somewhere else to eat is kind of stressful and the attitude was just off but the scenery is very nice I just wish the service would have been better . I have to leave and go...

Today was my first time to The Bookshelf in Tralee, and while the food was lovely the service would not encourage me to go again. The waitress was rude and condescending (without reason to be) and gave the impression that waiting on people was beneath her. I asked what was in the Strawberry Smoothie and she didn't have a clue, just informed us that its bought in ready made. This should be indicated on the menu but she should still have been able to tell us what was in it. Twice she corrected one of our party on their pronunciation, even though they were correct, and when a third asked for hot chocolate made with coconut milk she was informed they didn't do it. I should say at this stage that the others in our party are frequent customers and have always had the coconut hot chocolate and the service was always excellent. This waitress needs training and needs to learn her menu. I cannot fault the food however it...

Meant to be a nice spot so I got the eggs Benedict and pancakes.. eggs Benedict had brown bread instead of toasted white English muffin, I was dissapointed with this, very little hollaindiase sauce and the bacon was tough and thick… instead of thin and crispy.. first time ever seeing eggs Benedict with brown bread and I hope it’s my last time. Just doesn’t go well, not much taste or flavour overall. Pancakes were like protein pancakes… very flavourless, no sweet taste.. brown again made with brown flour.. Seems like place focuses on health too much instead of taste

A hidden food "jem" in South of Ireland 🇮🇪. The food is outstanding. The caramelised brioche with berries and Roasted nuts just melt in your mouth. If you're in a mood for more savoury dish try out the poached eggs & avocado 🥑. The staff are very friendly, even have me an extra caramelised banana. For all the coffee snobs, like myself, you'll be very impressed with their coffee quality. You have to go for their Colombian chemex.

All I can say is Amazing, I’ve been in Tralee almost a year now and I kept searching for good coffee and everywhere seemed mid . Honestly the bookshelf is the best coffee I’ve had in Tralee so far . Well done . Next time I’ll be up I’ll try some of the food too as they had lots of appetising options on the menu: They even had homemade soda… basically take my word and try their coffee. I recommend getting a cappuccino with oat milk
