At first glance it looks good - kids can play in playground while adults sit outside and enjoy their lunch. However it became apparent quickly that it isn't as pleasant as it seems. Firstly, everything is self service even though there are plenty of 'waiters' standing around doing nothing. So, you have to go and queue at the Carvery and wait for your order to be made up. The prices are hefty - 6.50 for a few chips and sausages in a bowl for kids. I had the fish pie - tasted good when it eventually came out but more on that later. After standing at the Carvery for ten mins food arrived and I had to make two trips. Two waiters hanging around watching me make two trips with trays through the doors that require a handle to open them. No offer to help at all. Then I had to go back to the bar for drinks and same thing -barmen gave me a tray and watched me put it on the ground to open the heavy door outwards, not any offer of help. After twenty minutes and after paying a la carte prices for self service finally sat down to eat. Very stressful. The only saving grace was the fish pie - tasted good - although pricey. Thirty minutes later driving home was in agony with sudden onset gastro symptoms - we had all eaten the same food all weekend and the fish pie must have been the culprit. The only benefit was the kids enjoyed the playground but could have saved 60 quid and a few hours of illness by...
Read moreBeing a fantastic sunny bank holiday Monday, my parents and I decided to take a drive to Dunmore East and enjoy the good weather. On the way home we decided to take a little detour to Jack Meades and hopefully have something to eat. ....The wows just kept coming. As a student nurse in Ardkeen this place was a wonderful little bolthole a few miles out the road where we had enjoyed many a good night almost 30 years ago. Shamefully since that time I hadn't been back until yesterday. Congratulations to the owners and staff on keeping the character of the lovely old bar but more so to their wonderful foresight and ingenuity in creating this wonderful oasis that it has become. We had a lovely meal in the fantastically appointed bar and restaurant which was buzzing with customers. There is so much to explore on site from the little museum, to the wonderful play area to keep kids safely amused, the gorgeous stream with ducks and geese , the beautiful old lime kilns and old stone buildings to the meandering Hill Walk around by the pet area. We had a most wonderful evening and enthusiastically look forward to returning in the very near future. ....guaranteed it won't take me another 30 years lol. Many congratulations to you all and for proving without doubt that given the right circumstances and drive that a rural pub can survive....
Read moreWe were on a Cosmos tour with Bill as the host, and decided on this excursion as part of the must-see optional shows offered by the tour company. We paid online ahead of time to save having to buy the tickets in person.
Upon arrival we learned a little bit of owners’ history and the building’s history. We then went upstairs to enjoy drinks and the show.
The drinks were wonderful. We both had whisky with lemonade. They are crisp and refreshing drinks.
We did not eat this evening, since they do not serve food in the upper room.
Our host was an amazing guitar player and singer. He sang Danny Boy (which was Broadway caliber!) and has a fantastic voice. He also sang several other songs that were funny and engaging.
Our bus driver Tony performed too and sang wonderfully.
Note: Please do not record the show while there, it is not allowed but you may take photos.
You absolutely must see this show! It was fantastic and hysterically funny.
If you’re taking a tour with Cosmo, be sure to include this excursion, it is...
