Incredible view. Perched at the very edge of the Isle of Man’s southern coastline, The Sound Café is more than just a place to eat—it’s an experience etched into the cliffs above the Irish Sea. From its panoramic windows, guests are treated to sweeping views of the Calf of Man, where seals sunbathe on Kitterland and seabirds dive across silver waves. Locals and travelers alike come not only for the view, but also for the warmth of Manx hospitality and the rich, locally sourced cuisine that fills every plate.

The journey there is a scenic adventure of its own, winding through the sleepy village of Cregneash and along Sound Road until the cliffs open to reveal the café’s car park, often busy with visitors eager for breakfast, a seafood lunch, or simply a slice of homemade cake. Inside, floor-to-ceiling glass invites the outdoors in, while friendly staff serve up everything from hearty Scottish breakfasts to fresh crab and Davidson’s Manx ice cream. With indoor and outdoor seating—and a dog-friendly policy—the space feels open, relaxed, and deeply connected to its wild surroundings.

While the café hums with life, there’s something peaceful about the place. Visitors linger with a coffee, watching for dolphins or basking sharks just offshore, or refueling after a hike to the nearby Chasms or Milner’s Tower. In summer, the longer hours invite golden-hour meals against the setting sun; in winter, it offers a cozy retreat from the sea winds.

Whether you arrive by foot, bike, or car, The Sound Café captures the essence of the Isle of Man: wild beauty, heartfelt flavors, and a rhythm that invites you to slow down and...

The view and building was stunning. Though we had trouble with the food. I got the soup of the day, Leek and potato, but it was gritty.. literally. Took me a while to work out it was not from the potatoes(peeled and washed) but the leeks, only because i learnt recently the layers between your leeks will have dirt in them, washing the outer layer won't help, the chef needs to peel back the layers and wash em. That was the grit i tasted. 110% I'd put money on it. When i learnt this and peeled back the layers, leeks are dirty due to the way they grow.

My boyfriend got egg, ham n chips but he requested a very hard yolk, which they did not deliver, he likes the yolk not at all runny and literally insanely overcooked, as people like the yolk runny, the chef couldn't meet this request, the second time it was still a bit soft so the yolk got discarded as we didnt want to wait a third time.

I did not enjoy the milkshake, but that was on me, i was expecting something different i should have known when it said marshmallows were included.. It was a kids drink, not a fresh milkshake. So that was 100% on me.

Staff were brilliant however, the waiters were apologetic and he gave us a refund for the soup and took it off the menu. The food wasn't too bad in all. The soup was nicely flavoured and home cooked which is a big bonus. The ham was nice.

Toilets clean and well maintained. We would go again for the beautiful view. It was PACKED though, too many patrons and the car park was jammed. I don't think we would eat here again as we are looking for more resturant experiences, as a cafe though,...

The Thousla Cross is a poignant historical memorial perched on the southeast coast of the Isle of Man, commemorating the heroic rescue of the French schooner Jeune St Charles crew in 1858. The original wooden cross was replaced in 1907 by the concrete monument we see today, standing sentinel over the rugged coastline with serene and scenic surroundings. Sometimes, you might even spot seals lounging nearby.

Just a short stroll away lies The Sound Café, a charming seaside café offering heartfelt local food, light lunches, homemade cakes, and a fine brew all with panoramic views toward the Calf of Man. Rated around 4.6 for both its cozy atmosphere and spectacular vistas, it's a perfect spot to relax after a coastal walk or to simply unwind with sea air and perhaps a glimpse...

This is the most incredible place with fantastic sea views and of calf island. We just had tea & cakes, a little pricey at nearly £11 for two of us but very nice - I believe the cakes are homemade. The lunch menu was what you would expect for a cafe - soup, sandwiches, jackets + a specials board. I would say the pricing is the higher end for such an establishment. Thankfully, they do take card payments. The dining room was clean & contemporary with a large aspect window so you can look out at the scenery. The toilets were clean but the lights were off some reason & there were no hand-towels; there was a hand-dryer which was about as useful as a chocolate teapot! There is a fairly large car park however it is quite steep in parts which may be difficult for those with mobility issues.
