Mataim — Restaurant in Haifa District

Extremely disappointed! Came for a visit from London and heard good things about this place so though we would have breakfast there. Checked on Google and their website for opening hours. Arrived at approx 10:15 (place supposed to close at 13:00) we were told by the hostess that they have an event so we cannot be sitted but only order take away as they close at 11. We've asked as it is only 10:15 if we can't sit anyway and we were told as long as we clear our table at 11 we can. Ordered coffee, super disappointed as nowhere on their website there was a note that they won't be open as usual (how hard is it to have a banner saying that and change their Google my business page?!). Waited almost 25 minutes! For our coffee and got it only after we've asked where it is. And at 11:10 they were still taking take away orders and people were still sitting having their breakfast.we could easily sit and finish by then. Absolutely shocking service and approach. Heard great things of their food, but won't be going back...

This establishment nestled in lovely gardens is a well-oiled dining machine. If you are not sure who is waiting on you, fear not. It appeared that everyone was doing everything and that is a big plus. Most everyone is pleasant although a few seemed a bit harried and less than cordial. No matter. On a busy holiday morning, one gentleman took our order, a second server soon arrived with steaming hot coffees. A third brought our meal, again piping hot. Everything was delicious and no surprises. I’ve enjoyed eating at this restaurant many times in the past. Today’s ‘no service’ theme is simply annoying. You must place and pay for your order before even entering the restaurant (prices same as when served) and then pick it up yourself at the rear of the large restaurant along with silverware, napkins, glass that you fill yourself with water, sometimes having to make two trips. If that’s not enough, when I asked for a napkin from my table I was told to go get one from where orders are picked up. Several servers are walking around with nothing to do but clear tables once people leave. Ridiculous...
