The restaurant, located in the 13th century watchtower that is the anchor of the Hotel Foresteria Baglia della Luna, was a delightful surprise! While we have generally enjoyed the many distinct Sicilian dishes experienced during our week on this lovely Mediterranean island, the Academia del Buon Gusto is the ONLY Italian venue fully deserving of the four stars I have rarely geanted in my world travels.
The Faggota di Melenzane was the most uniquely light and delicious of all the eggplant preparations I have sampled during three tours of Italy. The Tournedos offered filet at its tenderest aided by a light red wine reduction, beautifully accompanied by a lightly crusty potato side with cippole.
The Duette Siciliano dessert paired two perfect mini cannoli with a marzipan-wrapped mascarpone delight. Our Sicilian chardonnay, if not the normal red choice of grape, was very nice.

Having eaten at Michelin starred restaurants around the world, I would put the Accademia in the top 5 best spots I've ever eaten. We liked it so much we came back 2 nights in a row.
The standout is the food. It's grown on a small farm a couple miles away from the restaurant so everything is fresh, and that means FLAVORS that just about knocked me over.
The lasagnetta was the dish that all other lasagnas will be measured against for the rest of my life.
The location is stunning. The view from the hill they sit on, down into the valley with the Mediterranean sea made me want to pinch myself. Like a postcard.
And the service is friendly, unobtrusive and helpful.
Delightful. Eat here, and bring...
Read moreThis restaurant made for an unforgettable evening in Agrigento! The staff were amazing, by far the nicest and most attentive we had during our trip to Italy. All of the appetizers we had were good, but the sardines were the favorite. The group all got various dishes to share, which were all very good. My Seafood Ravioli was my personal favorite. The part I will never forget were the desserts. We got il tiramisu, pistachio gelato, and il sorbetto. Now, I had so much lemon gelato across the south of Italy on this trip, but I can confidently say: Il Sorbetto at this restaurant was some of the best ice cream I have ever had in my life. I’ll be thinking about it for...
