FOOD POISONING!! BE AWARE!!
I regret to report a distressing incident that occurred during our visit to Le Ninfe restaurant in Alghero, Italy on June 14, 2023. My girlfriend ordered a salad with canned tuna for lunch, which led to a severe allergic reaction within 15 minutes of consumption. After seeking medical attention at the local hospital, it was diagnosed as scombroid poisoning caused by histamine build-up in the canned tuna due to a failed cooling chain in the kitchen.
I strongly discourage others from dining at this restaurant due to the following reasons:
Food Poisoning Incident: The consumption of canned tuna from Le Ninfe resulted in my girlfriend's severe allergic reaction. Scombroid poisoning is known to occur due to improper processing or storage of fish, and this incident clearly points to negligence in maintaining the required standards.
Lack of Responsibility and Compensation: Despite bringing the matter to the attention of the restaurant owner the next day and providing photographic evidence and a medical report, the owner flatly refused to accept responsibility or offer any form of compensation. The dismissive attitude and lack of concern for our well-being were deeply disappointing.
Unprofessional Customer Relations: The owner's response was both unprofessional and insensitive. Instead of acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, she attempted to downplay it by comparing it to incidents that could happen anywhere, even in different countries. This lack of empathy and disregard for customer satisfaction only exacerbated our frustration.
Misleading Impression: Prior to our visit, we had high expectations of Le Ninfe due to its reputation and prices. However, the incident revealed a significant lapse in their food management practices and customer relations, which greatly contradicted our initial impression.
Considering the traumatic experience and the restaurant's failure to take responsibility or show any concern for their customers' well-being, I strongly advise against dining at Le Ninfe. It is disheartening to encounter such poor management and a dismissive attitude towards customer safety.
We have stayed at Le Ninfe before already. We knew the place and been happy. But this incident and especially the aftermath made us feel very very bad. We will not be guests at this...

We ate at this restaurant after seeing the menu outside advertising "Spaghetti allo scoglio". As soon as we saw that, we were sold.
At the start, we even asked for the Wi-Fi (since their menu is only available online), but they told us it wasn’t available for customers. Strangely enough, when you search for networks, there are actually three different Wi-Fi lines available—so clearly, it does exist.
Once we sat down and scanned the online menu using our own data, the dish we came for—"Spaghetti allo scoglio"—was nowhere to be found. I asked the waiter about it, and he told us it was no longer available. No explanation, and the menu outside still showed it. That’s just false advertising.
He said the same sauce was used in their Fregola dish, so I asked if it could be served with spaghetti instead. He said it wasn’t possible, especially with “200 people at lunch.” But as you can clearly see from the video, the restaurant was far from full—it was actually quite empty.
As an Italian, if a kitchen can’t switch the pasta shape, especially in such conditions, it makes me think the sauce is either pre-made or frozen. That’s not what you expect from a quality seafood dish.
And as the cherry on top, my partner found a piece of stainless steel sponge—the kind used for scrubbing dishes—right in his vongole e clams pasta. Completely unacceptable.
Next time, we’ll keep walking and find a cleaner, more honest spot—where the food matches the menu and doesn’t come with...
Read moreBooked this restaurant for dinner because it was right on the beach and had good reviews. We were sat at our table (nice table overlooking the sea) but weren’t asked if we’d like a drink. The waiter came 10-15 minutes later asking for our food order, although we were there about 20 minutes after opening we were told some dishes had sold out, (I noted that atleast one of the dishes (fish cake starter) arrived at the tables of others who arrived / ordered after us. After they took out food order they asked if we’d like a drink. The food was fine, not great (when compared to other places we’ve eaten in a similar price bracket in Sardinia) but definitely OK. The big let down was the service, our main courses arrived about an hour after we’d finished starters and when they did arrive they arrived in dribs and drabs, (my son had eaten his main course before mine arrived and I had eaten mine by the time my two daughters food arrived - we were purposefully eating slowly to try and eat together). Nobody asked us about our food, mine was passed to me over the table by a waitress who literally plonked the plate on the table, she was rude. After finishing the main courses we were so fed up I paid the bill at the bar and left. A shame that a restaurant with potential and a beautiful location, beyond it’s appearance isn’t very good. This is our 6th night in Sardinia and I have / will be writing very positive reviews about the other...
