Trattoria Antico Forno — Restaurant in Bagno a Ripoli

A divine experience!! We ve been there this saturday night, and we discovered just for a fortitous chance this amazing restaurant hidden in the florentine hills in the ancient village of Villamagna! (it's in a lost and hidden place but you just have to follow the Villamagna Street from Gavinana Quarter!). The waitress suggested us to order some starters: a dish of Tagliere della casa ( pecorino chees, salami, ham and oiled artichocke) and the big dish of fried specialties: the best of the best fried vegetables and meat from Tuscany culture!

Fried brain was terrific...a must have to try if you are a foreigner!

Then..with some good glass of red Chianti of Antinori, we ordered the second dishes! I tried the "polletto al mattone" , an entire chicken cooked in the wood burning oven (that's why I guess the place is called Antico Forno - Ancient Oven) pressed during the cooking by a heavy weight so in the result the meat is crushed and savory. Amazing..the best chicken I've ever eaten!

Wir probieren eigentlich lieber jeden Tag ein anderes Restaurant aus, aber dieses hier hat uns so gut gefallen das wir direkt zwei Tage hintereinander dort waren, und vermutlich wären wir sogar noch öfter gekommen, wenn es mit den Öffnungszeiten gepasst hätte.

Das Restaurant hat eine kleine Karte, ausschließlich auf italienisch (evtl. Offline Übersetzer herunterladen, in dem Restaurant hat man kein Mobilfunkempfang), was aber nicht schlimm ist, da der Kellner gerne Empfehlungen gibt und auch erklärt in welchen Varianten (bspw. Klassische Carbonara, oder eine Variante mit Fisch) die Gerichte möglich sind.

Hier merkt man richtig wie viel Spaß sowohl der Kellner wie auch der Koch haben, die Gerichte schmecken dementsprechend echt lecker und werden toll kombiniert! Beispiel ist ein Codfisch (im deutschen Kabeljau), der auf kleinen Orangenscheiben zusammen mit karamellisierten Zwiebeln serviert wird (auf dem letzten Bild zu sehen). Auf die Kombi wäre ich selber nie gekommen, aber es schmeckt unfassbar gut! Hier versteht jemand richtig was vom Kochen!

Am ersten Abend hatten wir auch das Florentiner Steak zum teilen und probieren. Lohnt...

Over priced. Steak was good but overpriced. Feeling we got screwed with the bill. 165 for a steak, vegetables, regular wine, pasta for 2. Restaurant was empty, we thought we were the first but nobody came on a Friday night. We went there 6 years ago, totally different experience, disappointed. Way better choices around, right next door seemed good and down...
