Truly appalling customer service – we walked out in disbelief.
We stopped here for dinner after a trip to Etna, and from the moment we arrived, the experience was dreadful. There was no signage, no welcome, no guidance – we wandered in and had to make an effort just to get noticed. Eventually, a waitress acknowledged us and seated us.
We ordered some water and received menus. Barely two minutes later, another waitress approached to take our order – we were still reading the menu. She visibly rolled her eyes and walked away without a word. When she returned just a couple of minutes later, I placed an order for myself and my daughter. My husband, who speaks some Italian, was trying to communicate his choice politely and thoughtfully. As he paused for a few seconds to recall a word, the waitress sighed dramatically and gestured impatiently for him to hurry up. She then huffed loudly again, with clear frustration, leaving my husband flustered and embarrassed.
When he asked her not to behave that way, she simply turned and walked off.
Let me be clear: the restaurant was far from busy – only two other tables were seated, both already served – so there was absolutely no excuse for the sheer rudeness and hostility we were met with.
There was zero patience, zero professionalism, and absolutely no effort made to engage with us as customers – let alone human beings. The interaction was so upsetting that we decided not to stay. We paid for the water and left, shocked and disappointed.
Avoid this place if you expect even the most basic courtesy. We’ve never experienced such disrespect in any...
Read moreVisiting Mt. Etna, the angry volcano blocked our travels not with lava, but with sleet and snow. We noticed a magnificent building that looked like an Alpine chalet. Braving swirling winds, we drove into its parking lot We entered a restaurant that seemed as long as a football field. I realized immediately that it offered lodging in addition to meals. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman named Vito. We asked if we might order pizza. He politely explained that that pizza would be served much later. Looking sympathetically at my shivering grandsons and our disheveled look after encountering the powerful Edna he recommended our choosing from his regular menu. Seated by a warming fireplace, our table was soon blanketed with freshly baked bread, olive oil, and as assortment of mouth watering delicacies. After our meal, my wife raved to Vito about the home made orange marmalade. We paid barely 70 Euros for six diners and an overabundance of foods. As we headed for the door, his chef Maria, greeted us with a large, free take-home portion of marmalade that she made with her oranges. While leaving, Vito directed us and assured us of safe passage to Taormina. On my next trip to Sicily, I plan to feast La Nuova Quercia's food again, and to...
