Ristorante Santa Barbara — Restaurant in Biddamanna Istrisàili/Villagrande Strisaili

Experienced an appalling lack of hospitality this afternoon. I’d advise any tourist to think twice before attempting to eat here. We waited for a table for around 15 minutes while two male staff members completely failed to acknowledge us, despite walking past us at least ten times. I gave them the benefit of the doubt as it was busy. When we were finally given a seat, out menus were literally thrown on the table. Paid for water was then slammed down, which we hadn’t asked for. After deciding on what we wanted the waiter came over and aggressively pointed at items on the menu, repeatedly saying ‘too late’ and continuing to berate us in Italian when it was clear our basic skills didn’t stretch. There was no attempt to meet us half way (the restaurant is listed on Google as being open all day, and native guests continued to arrive without issue while we were there).

I fully understand that there may be language gaps, especially when dining in rural areas, but this was the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had in years of travelling. We’ve eaten at about 20 restaurants during our Sardinia trip, many in low-tourist areas, and have been treated with warmth. Other local patrons were being treated as friends, with a big birthday party receiving hugs and kisses from the two men serving, so I can only presume that tourists are not welcome here. We gave up and stuck to the water and the waiter couldn’t have showed less interest. The Tripadvisor logo on the menu is pretty laughable here - only locals are...

Arrivati al ristorante, con clientela quasi del tutto locale, pensavo di assaggiare una buona cucina non per turisti. Il titolare ci ha accolto dicendo: "penso a tutto io". Ci ha fatto sedere al centro di una grande sala affollata, in un tavolino per due attaccato ad una grande tavolata molto chiassosa con tanti bambini che correvano a carosello e che si intruppavano al nostro tavolo. Nella tavola erano già stati sistemati una serie di classici antipasti di affettati e verdure. Il vino rosso già in una piccola caraffa era già in tavola. Gli antipasti li abbiamo mangiati non in un ristorante ma dentro un parco giochi chiassoso senza che avventori e gestore avessero un minimo di attenzione. Su mia richiesta cortesemente il titolare ha subito trascinato il nostro tavolo in un'altra sala (la pizzeria) più tranquilla. Purtroppo però il resto della cena è andata peggio perché il menù del ristorante è fisso per cui il titolare ci ha portato come primo un assaggio di culurgionis, buoni, ma con un sughetto pallido ed acquoso senza nemmeno una foglia di basilico e la fregola, scotta ed insipida. Come secondo un assaggio di grossi pezzi di manzo durissimo scuro ed immangiabile e un assaggino misero di maialino. Contorno di patate al forno appena tiepide. Non avendo potuto mangiare il secondo il titolare sempre con estrema cortesia, con sorrisi e pacche da "amicone" ci ha servito un pezzettino minuscolo di buon manzo che probabilmente era stato destinato ad altra clientela (altrimenti non si comprende perché ci aveva prima servito una carne così dura, scura e immangiabile). Al termine di questa cena così imposta il pagamento è stato di 75,00 euro in due. In altri ottimi ristoranti di Tortolì e Arbatax per una cifra simile, o anche inferiore, abbiamo mangiato prodotti di ottima qualità (scelti da un menù) e bevuto vini di buone aziende stappati in presenza. Mi è dispiaciuto tanto perché avevo fatto diversi chilometri all'interno di monti e paesaggi bellissimi pensando di mangiare prodotti tipici cucinati con cura, purtroppo nel nostro caso così...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Santa Barbara, a gem offering traditional Sardinian cuisine. The food was absolutely delicious, showcasing authentic flavors, all home made and grown locally by its owner. The highlight of the meal was the maialino sardo, which was incredibly flavorful and tender—an absolute must-try.

In addition to the outstanding food, the restaurant offers great value for money. The portions were generous, and the quality of the ingredients was evident in every bite.
