Bar Del Centro: Fresh Handmade Local Italian food made from Scratch.
We come here quite a bit now. Antonio the chef has worked all over the world cooking and this little town has should by rights have a Michelin star. Every bit of food is cooked from scratch. We watch as local farmers bring in eggs, olive oil, vegetables, meat & fruits. Locally brewed wine is knock out stuff. Antonio even goes out foraging for mushrooms in the local hills and brings in vegetables from his own land. He speaks fluent English and has customers come from all over the valley to seek him out. Always too much food! Turn up at 7 for an aperitivo and meet the local characters. There's a real mix - the locals, passing workers on their way home, holiday home owners. Always someone to talk to. Best to book in season if you can for Lunch or Dinner. Seats 14 inside but has tables outside when its warmer. He changes the menu daily depending whats fresh. You are able to just buy some slices of pizza and have coffee, torte etc...Worth going out of your way for! From the outside it just looks like another italian cafe - but its Imperias best...
Read moreWe had a wonderful relaxed lunch in this friendly local restaurant. Beautiful plates of cheese bites with olive oil and roquette, fabulous lightly battered courgette flowers and quiche for starters. Then, a very light vegetarian lasagne followed by freshly cooked chicken with courgettes and a delicious cucumber and tomato salad. To finish, a superbe blackcurrent tart made with olive oil and served with ice cream which was a treat. All fresh local ingrédients served with local wine, beers and coffees for a very reasonable all inclusive price of 30€ per person. They also do pizza which we will try next. Family run restaurant who make you feel at home- dogs welcome too! The owners speak English and French, and probably other languages, so easy to talk to. Make a day of it, come eat here for lunch, away from the crowds in the coast, then go for a swim in the river after a long lunch and pick up some beautiful local garlic direct from the farms in Vessalico on your way home. Perfect day ! We will be...
