La Conchiglia da Tano - Trattoria Pizzeria — Restaurant in Campobello di Mazara

Awful experience, I'd say one of a kind. I will go into detail and make you aware of this restaurant. I am local and chose to eat a pizza in this place with a friend of mine. I will write this review in English just to make sure that tourists can understand how unpleasant this place can be.

I used to go often for pizza takeaway, and it always went quite fine, but sometimes, long queues were annoying.

Some days ago a friend of mine and I decided to reserve a table and enjoy dinner at the restaurant. We called and asked for a table outside next to the sea. The worker reserved it for us, and we showed up on time to enjoy dinner.

First of all, the table we had booked before was no longer available so the only table that would be given to us was indoor in the middle of the room where people were passing by and often slam on our chairs or tables (this was unpleasant because when I dine out I look for something relaxing and pleasant).

When we were told it wasn't possible, we tried to explain that we did a 45 min car ride just to get to this place and have a seat outside, but the waiters turned out to be rude since the first moment.

Then we decided to give it a go and seat inside in the middle of the room. We ordered some french fries and 2 pizzas. However, it was taking too long just for some fries, so we called the waiter and inquired about the waiting time. We also added that if we had to wait a lot of time for our food, we would have preferred to go away and look for another place.

The waiter immediately got angry, inviting us to leave and look for another place. He insisted on this matter, telling us it was better for us to go in a very rude manner. Honestly, I was shocked, I've never been treated this way while eating out. He was yelling at us: "Are you in a hurry?! Why don't you leave then?" He was very unprofessional and superficial. He even dared to push my friend's arm.

We tried to keep calm and understand the situation (too many people eating at the restaurant, small kitchen, very few waiters and workers compared to the people asking for food). Although being displeased by this rude attitude, we stayed for 10 minutes more, and our french fries were served.

Then, after waiting for 1h and 15 minutes for our pizzas, we ran out of patience at some point and asked again to the waiter, who told us that we had to wait at least for 20 min more. Then, we decided to get up and leave the table.

Once at the cashier the whole staff got involved in this situation and they were asking each other about our pizzas, if our food was ready or not.. and immediately, our pizzas were magically ready to be eaten.

I would have left the place, but I didn't even have lunch that day, so food for me was much needed. We sat down once again and started eating this flat, fully covered with oil pizza that I couldn't even finish. (I never leave pizza).

We stood up, paid (not even an excuse, a discount, a "we're sorry". The cashier even dared to tell us how frustrating and difficult their job is, but at that point, they had already ruined my evening, so words weren't helpful at all).

We paid 35 euros for 2 people.

I will never go back to this place.

I would heavily recommend no one to visit this restaurant. Below I’d like to give you three reasons why:

They have prices on the menu that on the bill turn out to be “different”. With such language barrier this is very much not ideal. They misinform on which products on the menu supposedly are gluten free. In the case they make an error(which they did), in what you order; you will have to pay for it instead of it going back to the kitchen resulting in an even bigger bill.

I’ve never had such terrible service abroad and would highly advise any non italian speaking tourist to not consider this place. There are various better options(which we’ve been to) that are nearby, cheaper, more tasteful and with more friendly personnel...

Prenotato, arriviamo e non ci accoglie nessuno, aspettiamo 10 minuti prima che un cameriere si degni di fermarsi e quando lo fa ci dice che il nostro tavolo non c'è e avremmo dovuto aspettare. Insistiamo e ci danno un tavolo che non è fuori come da prenotazione. Veniamo ignorate ancora per 15 min. Carta vini inesistente, personale maleducato e sgarbato. Chiediamo informazioni e non ci vengono date perché i camerieri non sanno rispondere a domande tipo: "che pesce c'è nella paranza del pescato del giorno" (spoiler: la paranza era formata solo da 2 tipologie di pesce, gamberetti e alici + 3 polpette di un pesce che non si è capito, probabilmente il famoso pesce polpetta) palesemente nessuno di questi pesci era stato pescato quel giorno. Tempi di attesa per qualsiasi cosa biblici, siamo arrivate alle 21.30 e abbiamo iniziato a mangiare alle 23. Posate e piatti da rimandare indietro 3/5 piatti sporchi indecenti. Ordiniamo 2 piatti e su questi 2 non ne hanno neanche uno. A questo punto riusciamo ad ordinare gli antipasti e per il primo il cameriere ci consiglia di prendere tutte la stessa cosa perché così gli era stato consigliato dallo chef... Antipasti mediocri. Primi piatti pesantissimi, io ho preso una pasta alle vongole che aveva ben poche vongole e affogava nell'olio. Le mie amiche hanno preso dei tortellini in cui non era stato menzionato nel menù che ci fosse la panna e invece c'era praticamente solo quella. Sinceramente non sono riuscita a trovare una sola cosa positiva in questo posto, mi piacerebbe dire la vista ma purtroppo non l'abbiamo vista. L'unica cosa che mi consola è che peggio di così non si possa fare, quindi non potrò mai mangiare peggio di così. Piuttosto che venire qua a mangiare, state a digiuno, almeno risparmiate i soldi.
