Cascina Reina — Restaurant in Caravaggio

To give them their fair due, the food is very good and the service is not bad, the price, for the food you get, is very competitive. The location, while a bit far out, is very nice also. However, as far as the restaurant is concerned I cannot recommend you pay a visit in the summer. The dining hall, on our visit, was packed full and the noise was very loud with people shouting all over the place. There was no ventilation of any sort available. I can fully understand not having AC in a large farmhouse but the ventilation system was off and when we asked about it we were told it was broken. Sure, breakages can happen, but given the weather was 34C outside they should have, IMHO, at least provided some floor-standing fans. The air was hot, humid and very bad with all the people inside the restaurant eating, breathing and sweating. The food selection for end-of-july was also a bit baffling: Risotto, Casoncelli, Stracotto, Polenta... all very good but not exactly refreshing. Nelle mie valutazioni troverete quasi sempre luoghi e ristoranti da 4 stelle in su. L'agriturismo di Cascina Reina, dopo esserci stato un paio di volte, ci entra a pieno ma tutto dipende dall'approccio, dalla mentalità con il quale si va in questo luogo. Il complesso è molto grande, NON è propriamente curiosi nei minimi dettagli ma direi molto molto rustico e con alcune cose lasciate in balia del tempo (vedi l'area esterna bambini con quei pochi giochi esistenti rotti o comunque un po' malandati). Se si usa il barbecue con gli amici come abbiamo fatto la seconda volta, tra carne (di loro produzione, buonissima) e birra è il luogo perfetto per ridere e scherzare di gusto, in una giornata con poche pretese se non quella di essere in libertà, dialogando allegramente.

La prima volta invece abbiamo provato l'agriturismo, il ristorante. Menù fisso 35 euro compresa acqua, vino, amaro caffè e gelato. 15 euro i bambini. Il prezzo è ottimo, davvero. Comprende oltre a quanto già detto un buon antipasto di ottima qualità, due primi e due secondi. Nelle foto troverete il menù che però a mio parere andrebbe un po' cambiato durante l'estate. È un Menù decisamente invernale. Faceva tra l'altro molto caldo, davvero tanto e l'area condizionata, era parecchio in affanno perché non si respirava un granché all'interno della sala. Il servizio non è stato tra i migliori. Non sono solito parlar male dei camerieri che fanno un lavoro davvero duro soprattutto quando il caldo si fa sentire, e non lo farò adesso ma non è stato come me lo aspettavo, sotto le aspettative. Il cibo, seppur invernale, era ottimo. Il risotto fantastico. Lo stracotto pure.

In definita se si hanno amici e bimbi piccoli, il mio consiglio è quello di scegliere la braciata. I piccoli sono in libertà e i grandi pure.

Cascina Reina is a beautiful place to spend a day outdoors with friends, surrounded by nature. They rent out barbecue spots where you can cook and enjoy your meal in a relaxed setting, and the meat can only be purchased directly from them. The quality is excellent, all local and zero-kilometer, which makes the experience feel authentic and special.
