We ate here twice while on vacation from the United States. It was recommended to us by our host the first night and we are glad we took her advice! It was so good we came back two nights later for a second dinner. Among us for main dishes for two nights we had the caesar salad, pici pasta, salami pizza, ham & mushroom pizza, margherita pizza, guinea fowl.
The entrance is around to the right, the top shop/bar may look closed if you arrive for dinner, just go around the corner and down little for the entrance. We ate on the balcony both times with a lovely, quiet, peaceful view but the inside looked pretty too.
We took Villem's advice on wine, both red and white and the choices were excellent. We also had limoncello spritzes and an amaretto sour (no egg - perfectly fine with me, I don't like the egg in it anyway). The bread basket was lovely - we particularly liked the little round, warm bread and the more herb-like bread, but it was all good.
Don't believe the other reviews about pizza - the pizzas were EXCELLENT. Warm, crispy crust but soft inside, tasty cheese, excellent proteins and a great balance with the sauce, not too sweet or too spicy. They are not American-style pizzas, which is my guess as to why some other reviews have not been kind to them. They are, in my opinion, much better! We ate the little bit of leftover pizza for breakfast; it's just as tasty the next day! The pici noodles are very good and they have a light tomato sauce. My fiancee was blown away by the guinea fowl, he said the skin was so crispy and delicious.
We had the apple strudel, dipping biscotti, and homemade ice cream for desserts (salted caramel, coffee, vanilla, stracciatella).
We enjoyed our service as well! Villem was a little stern at first but he warmed up quickly and he is quite funny! We also heard him speaking fluently in English, German, and Italian. We very much enjoyed being able to take our time with the meal (all the food is incredible) and loved the more laid back Italian dining experience rather than being rushed through as you often feel in the US.
Chef Paola came out to speak with us as we paid the check both nights and mentioned they were her recipes, many from her family (we mentioned the apple strudel in particular - not something we've seen on many Italian menus).
We hope to come back some day and would love to take a cooking class when we do! Thank you for two wonderful dining experiences for our family!
Prices were very reasonable for our family of six. One last note - my brother-in-law mentioned that they had the cleanest restroom we'd see in all of Europe and...
Read moreWe aimed at going to the nearby La Speranza but that happened to be full. Nearest restaurant happened to be Alla Pieve. Surprised to find on a Saturday evening it was empty. The village is supersmall but nice, free parking in the front. We went for a bresoala carpaccio to share as a starter, all with fresh ingredients and very tasty. The prices of the wines were kind of expensive compared to other experiences in Tuscany but there were some really good wines on the list. We went for glasses of Supertuscan, 5€ each. As a main course my partner took duck ravioli, fresh and very tasty. Good portion. I took the Fiorentina steak, medium rare. Good preparation, nice grilly taste and nice and red from the inside. As a dessert, chocolate muffin with almond cream, delicious. Waiter was very attentive and spoke good English. All in all a very good experience, nice atmosphere and we loved the village. Cannot relate to the reviews below, our experience in the...
Read moreNever thought I could get brain freeze from pizza, but Alla Pieve aka Alla Dr. Oetker managed to achieve this otherwise impossible feat. We ordered 7 pizzas and all of them were most definitely prepared from frozen dough. Even though we did not have great expectations, after having their pizza I got confused whether it was really Italy that I was in. I restarted my phone just to receive the text message from my service provider notifying me of my whereabouts. Any Italian would be brought to tears just from the sight of this circular waste of yeast and would be forced to relive the pain of 1970 fifa world cup finals (4:1 BRA vs ITA).
The fact that most of your clients are tourists does not mean that they are uneducated and that you should stop trying.
P.S. It's been 20mins since I finished eating and I feel like there is a brick inside my stomach. Hope the porcelain toilet...
