Encanto White Beach Restaurant — Restaurant in Castiglione della Pescaia

The ambience and the location are very appealing. We decided to have a spontaneous lunch when we were at the beach with our children.

The beef, vegetables and pasta were of good quality and well prepared. Flavour is debatable, but for our taste the carbonara was unpleasantly peppery and quite salty.

However, what turned out to be off-putting was the waiter's food recommendation (!) for our children, who are 4 and 7 years old, mind you. He told us two children's dishes to choose from and we opted for spaghetti.

The first nasty surprise was that not only did we have to pick the mussel shells out of the children's plates one by one, but there were also quite a few small splinters hidden in the sauce between the pasta.

We would have liked to have complained about it during the meal, but the waiter didn't show up in the part of the restaurant where we were sitting for what felt like ages.

However, the price was far more brazen. In the end we were charged an outrageous 18 euros per children's dish plus 3 euros coperto per child!

Well, of course it was our own fault, we could have asked for the price in advance. But nonetheless ... who expects something like this in Italy, which is actually so child-friendly...

Arriviamo alle 13:30 di domenica 22 aprile, in una giornata gradevolmente calda, un anticipo d'estate. Dopo un primo sollecito approccio con i camerieri, in cui ci viene assegnato il tavolo e portato da bere, praticamente diventiamo invisibili per mezzora prima di poter ordinare. Il personale per tutto questo lasso di tempo ci ignora e quando finalmente arriva qualcuno per prendere le nostre ordinazioni si scusa dicendo che si tratta di una giornata piena e che sembra di essere a luglio. La verità è che ci saranno si e no una quindicina di tavoli scarsi, e che i camerieri sono tre. Cinque tavoli a testa, nella norma per chi ha lavorato nel mondo della ristorazione. Ma il peggio deve ancora venire: non contenti di averci fatto aspettare mezzora prima di ordinare, ci portano il primo (che dà menu viene segnalato come cotto in 11 minuti) dopo circa un'ora. Il mio per giunta arriva tiepidino, segno che è rimasto fermo per un po' prima di partire dalla cucina. Nel frattempo si alza un vento traditore a ricordarci che nonostante la bella giornata l'estate è tutt'altro che arrivata e ci tocca patire anche il freddo, ma non c'è verso di chiedere di essere spostati su un tavolo riparato, perché il personale non si fa nemmeno vedere. Finiamo il primo verso le 15:30, ancora sostanzialmente affamati, ma decidiamo di non ordinare il secondo temendo che ce lo portino per l'ora di cena. Optiamo per il dolce che arriva dopo un altro quarto d'ora buono, e concludiamo il nostro pranzo, esasperati, ai limiti del sequestro di persona intorno alle 16:30. Ribadisco che il ristorante era tutt'altro che esaurito e che il personale era sufficiente a gestire la situazione senza generare disparità di trattamento, come in effetti non è stato. Abbiamo patito perfino per avere il conto, tanto che mi son dovuto alzare e andare alla cassa sollecitando alterato. One of my favorite spots on earth! Staff is amazing- enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgeable. All staff will come and help, you are never without what you need. On this trip Virgil was our lead server and was amazing, made it very memorable for everyone including my kids. Great wine recs. The tuna is the best I have ever had. A second server also came out and helped us with dessert and dessert wines and they were off the charts. This is all with one of the best locations and best views I have ever eaten in.
