Ristorante Pizzeria Le Dune — Restaurant in Castiglione della Pescaia

My worse experience, by far, in Italy. Le Dune has everything to be one of the best restaurants in town but its the worse. The house and the garden of the restaurant are so beautiful! It's a chalet surrounded by palm and pine trees and beautiful flowers and amazing surroundings but when it comes to the food its a catastrophe. When I was reading the menu I realised that a huge amount of dishes are with the tomato sauce, from a can. I'm very picky to eat so I asked the waitress (the only positive thing about the restaurant, apart from the place) what she could suggest and I realised that nothing is fresh there! Not even the mushrooms!!! At the end I ordered a pizza and the waitress was so amazing and honest that she end up saying that the mushrooms were from a can. In Italy??? Seriously??? One of the best countries in the world where you can eat fresh Ingredients??? How a Chef runs a kitchen and use Ingredients from a can to serve his custumers??? I would cut my wrists!! A package of mushrooms cost 2€. What an incompetente! I end up ordering the 4 cheese pizza... I saw other customers complaining about food as well. Waren spontan am Abend zum Essen und erst noch glücklich, einen Platz zu bekommen. Bestellt haben wir: Antipasti Vorspeise, Dorade, Pizza Margarita, Pizza Frutti di Mare. Leider war das Essen in allen Belangen geschmacklos. Selten so schlechte italienische Küche erlebt und als Belohnung jetzt alle Bauchschmerzen. Das anfangs gebrachte Brot hat nach Bleichmittel geschmeckt. Ungenießbar!!! Die Dorade war sehr klein und die Kartoffeln dazu vom Vortag. Selbst unser kleines Kind (5) hatte kaum Appetit auf seine nach nichts schmeckende Margarita. Die Pizza Frutti di Mare hatte sehr wenig Meeresfrüchte drauf, die zudem eher zäh waren. Schade, da wir uns den ganzen Tag auf ein gutes Essen bzw. ordentliche italienische Pizza gefreut hatten. Dazu kommt der schwache Service, obgleich ein vermutlich ungelernter junger Mann nicht wirklich etwas dafür kann. Zuerst bringt man das Fischgericht und nachdem dieses halb gegessen ist, kommen die Pizzen. Während noch die Pizzen gegessen werden, kommt der Kellner und räumt den Fischteller ab, der nur halb gegessen wurde, weil es kaum bekömmlich war. Das macht man nicht! Dann soll man 64,… Euro bezahlen, legt 70 Euro in ein Körbchen und erwartet 5 Euro zurück, da man nicht zufrieden war. Eine Kellnerin nimmt das Körbchen ohne Blickkontakt und Nachfrage mit mir. Sie geht davon aus, dass 70 Euro in Ordnung sind. Normalerweise hätte ich da was gesagt, aber unser Kind war sehr müde und dann war es mir auch egal (leider). Had a fun evening here. Our both vegetarian pizze were tasty. The red vino della casa was great with those. Espresso was good. Staff was super busy but very friendly and helpful. We also got a baby chair for our 1.5 y/o daughter.

I read another comment here about the mushrooms not being fresh. Since we had the pizza funghi I inquired. The mushrooms are fresh and being fried in wine before being put on the pizza. No canned mushrooms...
