The small town of Civitella Marittima doesn't have that much to draw visitors aside from its medieval look and buildings - the main reason you go to Civitella is for the Locanda nel Cassero! The restaurant was a wonderful find for us when we first visited the area about two years ago, going there for dinner. Only later we discovered that there was also a B&B above. We went back to the area last April for my birthday and decided to stay there this time.||||On the ground floor you have the restaurant that serves the greatest Tuscan dishes we've ever had, everything we've had was exquisitely done. Try the gnocchi - the best ever, melt-in-your-mouth goodness!! The Florentine steak was delicious as well as the wild boar cooked Civitella-style. Desserts were delicate and tasty - the crostata we discovered was prepared with home made jam from berries picked by the chef and owner Alessandro. The menu changes with the season (the gnocchi, for example, have been different every time we've gone back but they're always offered - try them, even if you don't usually like gnocchi - I don't eat gnocchi anywhere else but I do at the Locanda!). Portions are also very good - not too much or too little, allowing you to taste a little of everything without feeling stuffed at the end of the meal.||||Above, the small B&B has maybe a total of 5 rooms. It is very quiet and relaxing to stay there, great for visiting the upper Maremma area it is located in. It is also a wonderful place if you want to have a great dinner downstairs and enjoy some fine wines without the worry of driving after dinner. Alessandro is really nice and down to earth, and you'll get a chance to chat with him over breakfast - which has a little bit of everything including the home made jams. Truly recommend the Locanda if you're in the area for an overnight stay and a delicious...

Read moreWe ended up in this beautiful medieval town, looking for a room, without knowing we were going to experiment one of our greatest stay while travelling to Italy. Allessandro the owner, greated us, and while he was busy cooking food for his guests that night, arranged to have a room set-up for us. WOW was our expression when we got to our room on the top floor. Historical building renovated with taste, wood beam, new bathroom with ameneties... But the surprise came in next morning when we woke up and open the windows: What a view !! A real postcard view !||Alessandro the owner served us a breakfast that he prepared himself with a lot of homemade product and was really pleasant to talk to. A great B&B to stay, great restaurant to eat and a magnificient medieval town on top of a mountain to discover !! We would certainly go back in...
