El Camineto — Restaurant in Cortina d'Ampezzo

Atmosphere first because the breath-taking scenery around El Camineto is what first hit us. It is unobtrusively situated along a mountainside with gorgeous wide views of Cortina and its surroundings. The restaurant atmosphere was unfussy and comfortable.

Because we are those people, we were early. Rather that watch us shiver as we waited for the restaurant to open, we were welcomed to be seated inside and offered a glass of prosecco. From there, the staff and the service they provided was impeccable. The ordering advice and suggested wine pairings they provided was highly helpful. I noticed one of the wait staff serve people Coke Zero with the same courteous attention he gave the people who ordered a spendy bottle of wine.

Now for dinner. Someone had just been foraging for wild mushrooms because mushrooms were an obvious menu feature. My wild mushroom soup with a flaky pastry crust was the most delicious mushroom soup I have ever had. Both my husband and I ordered the beef filet. It was quite reasonably priced, so we expected a small portion. We received a cut was easily over three inches tall, nearly twice as wide, and cooked to absolute perfection. The mushroom (of course) sauce was a perfect addition. I ordered lavender tiramisu, which I still dream about. It was smooth and full of lavender flavor.

Una delusione nonostante il panorama incantevole. Siamo stati in questo ristorante di Cortina, famoso per la sua vista panoramica e l’eleganza dell’ambiente. Effettivamente, il posto è bellissimo, con grandi vetrate che regalano un panorama mozzafiato. Tuttavia, la nostra esperienza è stata rovinata da un episodio spiacevole che mi ha lasciato profondamente amareggiata. Siamo arrivati senza prenotazione e ci è stato detto che avremmo dovuto attendere circa mezz’ora per un tavolo. Nel frattempo, ci siamo accomodati e abbiamo deciso di andare in bagno. Purtroppo, ho lasciato lì i miei occhiali Saint Laurent, un oggetto per me molto prezioso, sia economicamente che emotivamente, perché li avevo acquistati con tanti sacrifici. Quando mi sono accorta di averli dimenticati, sono tornata subito in bagno, convinta che li avrei trovati lì o che qualcuno li avesse consegnati alla reception. Purtroppo, non è stato così. Ho chiesto informazioni alla ragazza in reception, che mi ha detto di non averli visti e che, se qualcuno li avesse trovati, li avrebbe lasciati in reception. Nessuno, però, è stato in grado di aiutarmi concretamente, a parte un signore all’ingresso, che gentilmente ha fatto un giro tra i tavoli e parlato con la donna delle pulizie, molto disponibile.

Per il resto, mi sono sentita completamente abbandonata e profondamente delusa, soprattutto considerando il tipo di clientela del locale. Non avrei mai immaginato che qualcuno potesse appropriarsi di qualcosa che non gli apparteneva. Se è stato davvero un cliente a prenderli – perché non è chiaro chi sia stato – rimane comunque un gesto di appropriazione indebita. Alla fine, siamo usciti da quel posto senza aver mangiato nulla, perché io e il mio compagno avevamo lo stomaco completamente bloccato e a me veniva solo da piangere. Oltre ai 20 euro spesi per uno spritz, ho perso 400 euro per i miei occhiali. Il personale non mi ha saputo dire se fossero presenti telecamere o se fosse possibile fare un annuncio al microfono per chiedere se qualcuno li avesse trovati perché tanto nessuno si sarebbe fatto avanti con gli occhiali ma io dico, qualcuno avrebbe visto qualcosa chi lo sa… Questa esperienza mi ha lasciato una lezione che non dimenticherò mai. Peccato che non tutti siano di sani principi e che non si sia potuto risolvere nulla. Se perdi un oggetto personale di valore, non sembra che venga fatto molto per aiutarti. Spero che il karma faccia il suo corso. Il mio consiglio? Tenete stretti i vostri effetti personali, perché non tutto ciò che luccica è oro Anche se è stato un mio disguido aver dimenticato gli occhiali, lascio comunque una stella. Non capisco come un locale di questo livello, con una determinata clientela, non abbia le telecamere, o magari le ha, ma nessuno me l’ha comunicato. Forse chi li ha presi avrà pensato: “Tanto qui vengono persone benestanti, come ne perde uno, ne compra un altro.” No, io acquisto le mie cose con sacrifici… Spero che in futuro se capita a qualcun altro perché si, siamo umani e dimentichiamo ci sia però un modo per poter arrivare a...

Service: 150% and amazing. Food promptly and quickly brought out. Attention by all staff including the management. We felt appreciated and had a warm welcome by all.

Food: best wine list we have seen yet in Cortina area. Incredible taste for all dishes ordered, locally sourced and locally made. The first taste gives you that ‘oh my lord’ feeling.

Price: affordable and underpriced for the quality of food.

Overall: when local Italians are driving up a 15 minute mountain with switchbacks and reservations made in advance for the quality of food and service - follow their lead. The locals know best….this place was completely...
