Americans BEWARE. The concierge of our hotel made the reservation for us. Perhaps that was the first mistake, since we were staying at a luxury hotel nearby and the restaurant owner perhaps viewed us as an easy “mark.” When you arrive, you are greeted warmly and are seated at a table with the most amazing little nibbles. You will eat them, thinking perhaps they are included in the outrageous 5 euro/person coperto. Who makes you pay for food you didn’t order? Well, you would be wrong. You are never presented a paper menu and are asked to make your selections from a verbal recitation. You may think, we’ll it’s a small place, they must change the menu daily. Everything sounds delicious. You neglect to ask the price of each dish as this would be onerous. You have a spectacular 3 course meal with lovely ambiance and great music. At dessert, for some odd reason you are presented with a menu. Now you see all the little nibbles and what they cost. You add it up to about 30 euro but they did bring two extra dishes not on the menu, so maybe it will be a few more euro. But when you ask for the check the evening is ruined. You see you were in fact charged 56 euro for all the little nibbles that you didn’t order, and your tiny plate (primi piatti) of delicious tagliolini trifolati was 50 euro! (We had a larger homemade white truffle pasta for half the price in Verona) To add insult, they tried to charge us almost triple for the second bottle of wine, which was exactly the same as the first bottle. Completely outrageous. A bad end to a lovely meal. They corrected the wine charge and when I expressed my displeasure about the price of the truffle pasta, I got the old I don’t set the prices answer. The owner took care of us all evening but was conspicuously absent when we were paying the bill. We are no strangers to expensive meals, but the seemingly deliberate lack of transparency at our expense was...
Read moreWhat a wonderful, lovely meal. We didn’t know what to expect from this small cozy restaurant, but we’re overwhelmed by its charm and its staff and owners kindness. A little perplexed by my wife’s vegan requirements, they quickly prepared everything they could think of that would make her happy. Guacamole or an extra salad — they were really thoughtful.
The Sardinian antipasto spread, spread across the table — was awaiting us when we arrived — and was replenished several times before dinner.
We had the tagliatelle and mushrooms — and the Filet in Red wine reduction. Yum.
The desserts though deserve a special mention. My Tangerine Sorbert with Prosecco was like nothing I’d ever had — and the berry meringue (and vanilla ice cream) was ALSO like I’d ever had. Both were reason enough to come here — really cool and I’d have had them for breakfast again today if I could!
Finally, both Leone (from Sardinia) and Anna (from Mexico) were ever present and just so warm to us, along with very attentive and waitstaff as well. For those who couldn’t speak English to us — they worked so hard to communicate anyway.
The whole meal was priceless and I gave our hotel concierge a hug for the recommendation when we...
Read moreThe food was delicious, good portions. I had the lobster pasta, which was fab, both in taste and presentation. My vegetarian jugs and had mushroom pasta and enjoyed it too. Crème brûlée and raspberry desert was fantastic too. Luckily we have read the previous reviews though, as they have quite deceitful pricing practices. They tried to trick us into paying for started we have not ordered. As in the other reviews there was a spread of staters we have not ordered on the table when we arrived. Luckily we knew to ask them to remove it and avoided the €20 per person surprise fee at the end. We also made sure we did not order anything that we did not see the price of, so no made up costs were added to our bill. Other than that, the food was superb and the service great, so as long as you are careful you can really enjoy the meal here. But we were very happy to have been warned as they did try to...
