Ristorante Saliola al Lago Ghedina — Restaurant in Cortina d'Ampezzo

Food was fairly good. Tho we have had better recently at the Tavern at Sexten Caravan Park and the Seeschupfe on Toblacher See. The staff were mostly great. We had 2 courses each and a bottle of wine and then, as we had drunk our 5euro bottle of water that came to the table already opened, we took a half drunk bottle of water off an adjoining table that the diners had left. A very plain(ly dressed) waitress immediately berated me and I attempted to explain the water had been left. Soon after a more authoritative looking female member of staff came by and asked if I wanted more water. I of course said no but she was intent on telling me off so I asked in my pigeon Italian do I need to pay for the half bottle. She said yes. Ok! Bring it on. She brought back the remnants of the half bottle and said I would have to pay for a half bottle. 🤣. I was up for walking out having just ordered 2 15Euro desserts and 2 sweet wines at 7.5euro each. The pettiness of the waitresses marred an otherwise fairly special experience. We had walked up a snowy track to the restaurant. Various glitterati from Cortina had driven up. Fortunately, the guy who served us excellent Chardonnay when we arrived had the good sense to deduct 14euro from our bill so we only had to pay 200euro!!!!! Maybe it’s just a cultural difference but we thought the staff’s actions at the table were very petty. We saw half empty bottles of water behind the bar - maybe ready to be refilled …. Special environment, fairly good food, mostly great staff. We had expected a Rifugio at the top...

We arrived with car and parked the car at the restaurant. We first wantend to walk in the woods and than have our lunch … a man came to us and asked if we go to the restaurant… I sad no, because we first wanted to walk… very unkindly commanded us to park the car elsewhere. That felt very hostile and we decided to go walking somewhere else. We had our lunch at a restaurant with very kind people in Cortina. We don’t understand this hostile people. The parkinglot was empty!!! Glad we didn’t had our lunch here after all. It is our holidays and we want to enjoy and not spending our money with negative people. So for us we will not return. Mortgage your house before you come here. It's extortionate and pretentious. The facilty itself is good but they seem to think they are 5* Michelin - full of airs and graces unusual for kids on a holiday job! Not that they were unpleasant just incongruous. The lake is more of a pond or even puddle - nothing to see here folks.Re prices - €12 coperta for 2 with stale bread. Beer 25cl - €7.5 served in a red wine glass poured very capably by the waiter! Food, largely seafood based - in the middle of the mountains, but no trout even tho there out there in the pond!
