Raw shrimp, tasteless uncooked pasta, rice-like risotto... I really don't know how they are still getting business. After finding that my first plate of Carbonara was totally tasteless, I asked the server for a replacement pasta, whatever her recommendation. While the 2nd pasta had a LITTLE more flavor, the noodles were partially uncooked (not al dente... Uncooked) and sticking together in large chunks. My wife's risotto was bland, and more of the consistency of thick rice. To top it off, the shrimp was completely raw. We showed this to the server, which she confirmed. We asked for the bill so that we could leave, and even though the plates were clearly seen as terrible by the server (who was very nice by the way) we were still charged incorrectly. While we were there, I also saw that one other table sent back a plate of food, and another table wasn't getting food at all. Please, for the love of Italy... Do not go here! There are plenty of other options in Cortina.
EDIT: Immediately after my posting this review, the restaurant replied back to my post saying "you are a fake", which you can see below. So sad. Instead of taking any kind of responsibility for your tasteless and uncooked food, instead you make baseless accusations, including insulting me by telling me I know nothing about how they charge for items, what Carbonara tastes like, or what "al dente" means. And no, Il Vizietto, I'm not asking for double cream, I'm asking for FLAVOR. Pasta water does count as flavor. If your only response is to insult me, your lack of professionalism is worse than I originally surmised. Word to management - when you refer to a "fake", I think you are mixing up my review with your disgusting food. And yes, you compensated for €30 on our bill, but our bad dishes added up to €35 on the bill. To prove, here in my edit I have attached a receipt to prove that I overpaid for this poor excuse for a dinner. To be honest, comping this small amount was the least you could do, especially after I still had to go away from your establishment hungry. So...
Read moreMy wife had dragged me to Cortina after having caught the hiking bug earlier in the year. After spending the day hiking in the mountains - all I could think of was food - the problems, however, were two fold - I'm vegetarian and we didn't have a car to drive to the better reviewed restaurants some miles away. We managed to find this restaurant close to our hotel and I was a little skeptical about my food choices having read their menu online but the wife was hungry as well and we decided to give this a shot - I couldn't have been gladder we did! The course started with an on the house courtesy of the chef ricotta cheese with onion jam - we literally inhaled that and hung on to the plates until the very last scrap had disappeared. I ended up having the tagliatelle that was heavily customized to meet my dietary restrictions and my wife had the salmon tartar as her appetizer and the short pasta with shrimp and cherry tomatoes for the main course. It is safe to say we were blown away. Dessert was just as fantastic and while I can write loads more about the Tiramisu and the hazelnut ice cream - I'm sure you've gotten a decent picture by now. The owners are warm and go out of their way to ensure that everyone gets the experience they seek. I also noticed that they modified the chef special ricotta cheese hors d'oeuvres for someone allergic to cheese to suit their requirements. All that said - this perhaps isn't the cheapest place around and we did end up spending more than we were used to in Italy (just north of a 100 euros with a bottle of wine) Absolutely worth it though! Hope you have an experience as...
Read moreMy husband and I tried to get a reservation at Il Viziento di Cortina the night before, but it was fully booked—a testament to its popularity. Thankfully, we managed to secure a table for the following evening, and it was well worth the wait! The moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. I was impressed and grateful that some of the staff spoke English, which made communication effortless and added to the inviting atmosphere.
The food itself was outstanding. We started with salmon and tuna tartare, both of which were fresh and full of flavor—an excellent way to begin the meal. Then came the caponata, and I have to say, it exceeded every expectation. I’ve been a fan of store-bought caponata in the past, but tasting this authentic version was a revelation: tangy, sweet, and perfectly balanced. It’s a must-try for anyone visiting.
For our mains, I chose the seabass with vegetables, which was perfectly cooked—tender, flaky, and seasoned just right. My husband opted for the homemade spaghetti with seafood and was thrilled with the flavors and how well they complemented each other.
From start to finish, Il Viziento di Cortina provided everything we could want for a special dinner. The atmosphere is cozy yet refined, the staff is exceptionally friendly, and the food is simply top-notch. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience on our last night in town. Highly recommended!
