It's not often you have experiences that money cannot buy, but that's exactly what Mario and his family have to offer at their small farm stay in Dorgali.

Think of a homemade restaurant experience with a bed and breakfast attached.

The restaurant experience is an authentic Sardinian set menu which will take you through many of the Island's classics and the families' favourites. What you cannot. buy is that the produce you eat and drink is mostly from the land you are on. The hams, vegetables, wine, Mirto, pasta and other items are grown or made on site by the family, rare in this day and age.

If you are mildly adventurous with your food and don't have dietary requirements, I recommend you go in to the dining experience blind, as we did, and discover each dish as it comes.

For those interested in provenance, wine production and food prep, then there is no one more curious and engaging to speak to than Mario, who was happy to show us his entire operation behind the scenes.

This place will raise the benchmark for what you consider hospitality to levels that are almost impossible to match regardless of where you go or how much money you throw at something.

This was the highlight of our stay in Sardinia, and we will return again, if not only to visit Turismo Rurale Filieri, and see Mario and his...

We received a confimation in the morning that we could checkin at 1400 but when we arrived just after 1400 there was no one to welcome us and when we finally found someone at 1600 we were told we did not have a reservation. When this mistake on their side was solved we found out that we only could eat at 20.30 together with another big group. This was in itself not an issue but we were not told beforehand that we also had to eat exactly the same dinner of the group. The food was simple but mostly consisting of meat such as cold cuts, meat ragouts, stomach and roasted pig. There were no alternatives. It would have been more appropriate to be told beforehand (about the group dinner, the time and kind of food) in more detail than now was the case. Then we could have the opportunity to decide what we really wanted and adjust. |The rooms are simple. Breakfast with mostly sweet cakes, fruit, toasted bread and marmalade. Conclusion: we paid 190 euro for the room and the breakfast and this was much too much for the value which was offered. We did not at all recognize the...

We simply had the best time with Mario and his family. Everything was just wonderful – the location right in the middle of the vineyards and under the most beautiful olive trees. The rooms are absolutely lovely, air-conditioned, furnished with care, and equipped with everything you need. There are delicious drinks by the pool, and we were served an excellent espresso upon our arrival. Simply perfect. The pool itself is also beautiful and very clean. However, the highlight was definitely the dinner. We didn’t have the set menu but ordered à la carte, since I’m not really a big meat eater, and Mario took the time at our table to explain each type of meat to us in detail and advise us accordingly. We have never eaten such fantastic meat before… we are just thrilled. The atmosphere under the olive trees, the music, the red wine, the dessert – it was an absolutely perfect evening and the best way to end our holiday here in Sardinia. Mario, we are so grateful to you and will definitely be back (hopefully for a longer stay next time)! :)

Only food experience from us --> After GPS made some fun of us a few times, we arrived hungry and without reservation, since beforehand nobody answered the phone. Without telling us the prices, the owner provided one last table for us, while the dinner had already started for the rest of the guests. Every dish literally melted in your mouth, we received several appetizers, whilst the red homemade wine accompanied them perfectly. After that - ravioli...we were full already (btw I can eat like Joey from Friends) - however they brought out their famous porcceto. Had to take it twice. Omg. Amazing. Just amazing. I could barely finish the desert, but hey, I am not a quitter ;) The best experience in Sardinia during our two weeks trip. Best price / value by far. 10/10. Not nearly as expensive as I imagined, but due to the respect toward the owner will not reveal their numbers. Just go. Seriously. Thank me later ;)
