Truly the rudest experience I’ve had in any restaurant, ever.
We walked into La Buglia in Chianti after seeing online they had good vegan options. The place was nearly empty - we came early - but the waiter (bald, and immediately hostile for some reason?) asked if we had a reservation. We said no, and he just pointed inside with no explanation.
We then asked if they had any vegan options and he looked at us with disgust. His exact words were: “Vegano? In Tuscany? No. Bye bye.” Then he added “foie gras” with a smirk before walking off.
It was genuinely shocking — not just rude, but completely dismissive and mocking. I’ve never been treated like that in a restaurant anywhere, vegan or not.
For the record, eating vegan in Tuscany is absolutely possible. We ended up at a place nearby called Casa Me' Ma' and had an INCREDIBLE meal with a kind, respectful waiter. Now that's how it's done.
La Buglia seems stuck in a time warp where hospitality doesn’t matter and mocking people for their dietary choices is acceptable. It’s embarrassing for them and a terrible reflection on a region that has so much more to offer.
Avoid at all costs. They should be ashamed...

There is free parking along the hill. The staff was nice and friendly. We sat outside in the evening and it was beautiful. Prices were reasonable I would say slightly higher than I expected but the food was still good. The sampler at the beginning and for dessert is a good way to go I think. The 1000 folds pastry was a highlight. They had a very extensive wine list too so make sure you go in with a plan for wine. I would return if I was in the area but not just for...
Read moreWe discovered La Bugia as we were travelling through Tuscany. It was like finding a precious stone which has tremendous value.
Claudio has created something very special here. The atmosphere is set within the lovely Tenuta il Burchio Hotel.
This is an intimate setting, family style serving of authentic Tuscan dishes made from scratch daily.
The wine, music, and amazing team made our dinners the best we experienced while in Italy.
Make a reservation as this is the best ristorante in the area and books out fast.
This is a jewel not to miss, if you are in the region!
Thank you Claudio,...
