We dined here since we had already bought wine for more than 200€ at this place during our holidays in Tuscany. The wine is excellent, so we decided to have a final nice dinner at this place. Oh boy what a mistake... Other customers seemed to be happy, I still don't know what went wrong but it was the worst dinner ever, we had in Italy. We were a party of 5, two of which are teenagers. It was only possible to get a separate meal for our vegetarian teenager, since the 3 adults chose the "Menu degustazione" which is only served for the whole table. Now first the quality of the service: Miserable! The waiters had poor foreign language skills, the glasses were not clean, the single dish for the vegetarian was served well before the first course of the menu, Wine was not poured by the waiters, we had to do it ourselves, The second water bottle was warm, Plates were handed out at random (not women first), The cuttlery was placed at random on the table. The quality of the food: The worst I have tasted in all of Italy so far The first course was a Tuscan bread soup with octopus, at least according to the menu. I'm fact it was tasteless it seemed like the bread had fallen into the sink, done rare vegetables could be found and from all 3 plates just two tiny tasteless pieces of octopus could be found. The second course matched the first in bad taste. The third course was an absolute surprise. Spaghetti with mussels, never have I heard that an Italien Chef is able to overcook pasta, but this one did. It was absolutely tasteless, the mussels seemed to have come out of a can. The main course was unidentifiable. A brown substance so horrible that none of us was able to eat more than a small bite of it. That's when we left, so we can say nothing about the desert. When it came to paying the bill I was asked if everything had been okay. Then replying in a mix of very basic Italian and English on my side, the most proficient waiter in English thus far forgot any foreign language skills. So we paid 40€ per person for the worst dining experience we had so far during all of our travels. Maybe it is a different experience for fluent Italian speakers, since none of the other guests seemed so displeased as we were. But as far as I can tell none of them were stupid enough to order the set menu.
What a way to ruin the end of an otherwise...
Read moreThis is a beautiful location in the Maremma hills, part of the Tenuta Fertuna. Their tasting menus are very well priced and their wines are excellent, with various price points. We dined inside in May and outside in July; inside has a smarter feel whereas outside is just a courtyard behind a casa colonica (house), albeit with a lovely sky at sunset. The food was good both times but the service could be improved in parts. The “maitre” never even bothered to come and talk to us, preferring to chat with her friends. We were left with two adolescents of which the girl was better; the boy had a mouthful of metal braces (probably not the best look for customer-facing roles) and seemed to do everything rather too quickly, rather than ensuring that the diners had what they wanted and were enjoying themselves. Not only that: we had prepaid and yet he asked us to pay again. We might go back for the countryside, but not...
