Ristorante Locanda Il Gallo — Restaurant in Greve in Chianti

Don't think, just go. Seriously. This locally owned and operated restaurant will exceed your expectations. Francesco was more than accommodating. From the hand-cut bread to the last bite of the meal everything was truly amazing. We had a saffron zucchini pasta that was exceptional. We followed that with a chicken in a balsamic sauce that had us complementing every bite. This was a shared second plate with a bacon-wrapped tenderloin that cannot be described. The beef was rare and so well prepared that my mouth is watering just thinking about it as I write this review. One would think that the side item is just that. A little something extra to add... Think again. We had roasted potatoes like nothing I've had before. Chunks of potatoes that were seasoned with rosemary. They were crispy on the outside with a creamy, almost liquid, center. We only came for the restaurant part. For antipasti we ordered breasola and burrata, for secondi gnocchi tartuffo and for prima tranche steak. Antipasti was amazing they combined creamy burrata with salty breasola and cured egg yolk slices which was an amazing touch for the dish. Gnocchi was amazing and made with truffle slices. Meat was also so delicious, and was very juicy and tasty. The aromas within the meat was so good. Overall it was all amazing! Excellent location to explore the Chianti area and Florence, the attached restaurant is a huge bonus, see separate review. Parking was easy straight across the road from the hotel. A bus stops right out the front for Florence, runs regularly weekdays but not often on a weekend. We drove into Florence on a Sunday and as a result of Alessio's recommendation found parking quite close to the centre. ||The room was spacious, very clean, and had a very effective air conditioner which was needed in July.
