Dal Montanaro — Restaurant in Gropello Cairoli

Today we visited Gropello Cairoli (about 40 km below Milan on the A7 road) on our journey from the Netherlands to Lugurgië. A small town with about 4000 inhabitants. The village looks very neglected and gloomy..

Of course we want to visit the Italian cuisine and ended up at Dal Montanaro. It didn't look cheerful from the outside, and we couldn't see if it was open or closed (a sign with OPEN/CLOSED would be inviting.

Inside it was different, it was clean and nicely laid out and we were warmly welcomed by a nice lady, who explained to us a lot of what was possible. After we had made our choice we ate our fingers of the Angus starter, which was followed by a very tasty Angus hamburger.

The prices were reasonable and the service and the meal top.

From the outside you start to doubt whether to go inside. If you don't, it is a missed opportunity.

As a steak fan, I can only say that food here is amazing. They know what they do and the service is so kind and creative. Will come back as soon as I am in the area.

We ordered ~0.6kg per person plus salad and a table with some charcuterie. The sashi diamond is so tasty, must try. The local one is quite good and the most tender, I would’ve like to try it a bit more curated (longer drying time), on the other side flavour was super fresh like it is.

Cercando a caso, sulla strada del ritorno, trovo la scritta “Al montanaro”. Ci siamo lasciati alle spalle il mare, stiamo tornando alle nostre montagne mi è sembrata un ottimo compromesso. Ci sediamo, non aspettiamo molto e la titolare del locale ci raggiunge. Ci descrive i piatti del suo ristorante. Specialità la carne. Una descrizione perfetta, una professionalità come poche. Ci sente chiacchierare tra noi e nota famigliarità, ci chiede da dove arriviamo e che le sembra di riconoscere quell’accento molto marcato “che non impedisce di fare l’università a Milano” (PTN). Ebbene sì, sono anche loro bergamaschi! Non potevo scegliere posto migliore per ambientarci al rientro.

Un buon vino, un antipasto molto ricco e buono e poi arriva la carne. Mio marito e mia figlia han preso una costata che era di ottima qualità e alla fine si sono leccati pure i baffi io, ragass non ho mai mangiato un Hamburger così buono nella mia vita. Peccato, o per fortuna del nostro portafoglio, dista un’ora da noi. Comunque penso che ci ritorneremo
