I was waiting for Google to prompt me to write the review on that one: IT IS A BOMB!!! 😍😍😍😍 We have been going to this amazing place since before it went through the recent refurbishment, which did not take away even a pinch of its previous charm but added kilos of class and sophistication, still leaving it though the most friendly and comfortable place to be. Let me tell you about the waiters first and their spoken menu; I listen to them like I was 6 years old listening to my parents reading me a fairytale. The staff is so skilled and so well trained, you start feeling enchanted the moment they open their mouth to recite the menu, and you’re salivating profusely by the time they finish. I adore the experience. And they are fluent in many languages so you can have your fairytale recited in the language you’re comfortable with. You sit by the glorious 200 years old open, stone fireplace and the smells from the kitchen creates a background to the waiter’s tales. But then there’s food…. I have had a privilege to work in high end hospitality in London for over 15 years and eat in the most fabulous places, Michelin rated or just simply good. But I tell you; a better thing than slow over night roasted pork belly here I have never eaten A NY WHERE. I dream about it, how it melts and falls apart, complimented by the silkiest mashed potatoes ever. All food is sourced locally, so is the delicious wine, and as an addition, in the summer, you eat at the terrace surrounded not only by breathtaking views but by chickens and peacocks who come to say hello. I love this place dearly and I wish them every success :) oh, and I don’t have pictures from there as I’m so preoccupied with food I forget...
Read moreExceptional...do not miss. So we wandered in at 8pm having got used to being sole diners in our week at the end of October in Umbria. Miriam? and Antonio greeted us and assured as that they could find a table for us (the place was completely empty...) but by 8.45 it was heaving. And deservedly so. The family had just completed their first ever olive harvest and the delight with which they shared their 30-minute old olive oil said it all. This was followed by cheese produced from their animals with home baked bread, delicious pates and outstanding salumi, an impossibly large bowl of hand-rolled pici for me and a wild mushroom crepe for the vegetarian, an incredibly fine tagliata for me and a mix of vegetable dishes for her, and an exceptional creme brulee to share to finish washed down with some great, fruity house red. This is Umbrian home cooking at its best - gregarious, generous and fun - in a beautiful setting. Do not miss - at 30 euro a head this was also...
Read moreThis was another of those wonderful surprises that Italy specialises in. We were in the area and asked for a recommended local restaurant for lunch and were told to go to the Ristoro in Campagna. Well, it was perfect. The setting is stunning - a wooden floored outdoor veranda with Umbria rolling its green countryside across the horizon. Simple paper place mats with a menu of local Umbrian dishes all prepared with locally produced ingredients creating a choice of high quality authentic Umbrian food. The service is very friendly, relaxed and adds to the bucolic atmosphere, with peacocks, cockerels, hens and turkeys roaming free around the area. A wonderful way to pass a couple of hours, eating extremely well, with a jug of local ref wine and all at an extremely reasonable price. I will certainly return and take friends along too. Best to book at weekends....
