If you're passing through Assergi (which you should; medieval hamlet, Gran Sasso, fresh mountain springs, breath-taking views) stop for lunch or dinner at Vulia. I recommend their pasta dishes, all of them. Their pastas are home made and to die for. The place is run by a brother/sister team and an English-speaking nephew with impeccable manners. Their antipasti and "secondi" (main dishes) are also very good. The price point is acceptable. The wine is local and more than acceptable.
