Trattoria Trita Pepe — Restaurant in Manoppello

Utterly divine! Wonderful food, people and atmosphere!!

My brother and I are staying at a small hotel about 15mins from this Restaurant with our family, and decided just the two of us to randomly pick and go to a local restaurant. The stars must have aligned to bring us to the best local eatery, because that is absolutely what we found!

Not only are the people fantastic, but the food is simply put "insane", my brother says he keeps reliving his meal in the best possible way, lol. The sous chef explained that Trattoria is family run, owned and operated, generations of their family are in the kitchen and dinning room on any one night.

The menu is in Italian, and this is not a Tourist type of place at all, so English translations u will not see, bring ur phone and Google Translate and u'll get by just fine. Even so, almost the entire staff tries diligently and with great success to speak English, making the experience one to cherish. If u tell them what TYPE of food and flavors u like or are wishing for, they will create something delightful, the only caveat being u have to trust them to delight u. Trust me, that is a bet u absolutely want to take!!

The first night, another table of local Italian strangers brought us a basket of what looked like bread, "no no! Not bread!! special," they told us, "it's NOT bread!! very special." 10 minutes later. The basket was empty!! Steamy, crispy, picking up a piece u learned they are in fact hollow, flakey and buttery crisp on the outside, the inside remained soft and fluffy, a revelation!! So good, I'd hop a plane to get them!

We thanked them because we would never have known to order the special pillows of heavenly delight, Gnocco Fritto, 3 Euros gets u a basket full of the most delicious puffy bits of fried savory dough that taste as if they were bathed, then fried in butter. In truth, no butter at all!

My entire family agreed, we would drive hours just to eat there again. My brother and I, we ate there last night then came back tonight with the rest of our family! Thank God we are in Abruzzo for another 6 nights, we WILL be back. And against all odds, tonights meal was even better then last night's, I can't wait to see what they make for us tomorrow night ;-)

All of the food is spectacular, but what truly made our experiences so special was the truly wonderful, kind and friendly family behind Trattoria Trita Pepe.

We are so thankful to have stumbled upon this Culinary Gem.

Very nice restaurant with friendly and welcoming service. Ingredients of the highest quality and cooked with skill. I tried the Trita Pepe appetizer, which includes cured meats, cheeses, and three hot appetizers. The small sheep and pecorino burger deserves a special mention but the whole appetizer was of excellent quality, enriched by the abundant and tasty fried "gnocchi". I also tasted the grilled lamb and it was excellent. End of dinner with a tasting of Italian liqueurs, two from Abruzzo and two from northern Italy, led by the friendly and professional owner. Eravamo in tre, e siamo sfortunatamente capitati in una serata in cui il locale era particolarmente pieno.

L'attesa è stata estenuante dall'inizio e l'antipasto ci è stato servito dopo 30 minuti solo parzialmente. Fatto presente al personale di sala il disappunto, non siamo stati inizialmente creduti ed abbiamo dovuto insistere per ottenere anche la seconda parte dell'antipasto.

Faccio inoltre presente che la confusione era talmente tanta (sia nel locale che tra il personale) che l'antipasto ci è stato portato quando non avevamo ancora sul tavolo pane e piatti e nel corso dell'attesa ci sono arrivate bevande richieste da altri tavoli.

Abbiamo quindi deciso di rivolgerci al titolare e dopo circa un'ora di attesa abbiamo finalmente ottenuto l'antipasto completo. Attesa che è stata particolarmente stressante anche a causa del locale nel quale le voci rimbombavano in maniera decisamente fastidiosa.
